Better to replace your diet with saturated fats and proteins instead of carbs. This would facilitate strengthen your muscles, burns fat even when you are at rest. Due to low carbs insulin will not be in the blood which help fat to burn providing required energy. You will see a significant change in your weight loss and new muscles being added

So in having 50 replies, the crux of the matter is always: Energy in vs Energy out...
Do you eat too much sugar - what does your diet look like?
I believe in a few things:
1.A sixpack is built in the kitchen - eat wrong, your six pack is gone
2.Weight Training is worth the its weight in gold - the harder your regime, the firmer your outcome
3.High Protein Diet with balance of fruit and vegies will give you the sustainance required for the muscle development you require, but
4. Mental stability in the above 3 will give you the outcome you require in your question...

What I do is core toning exercises everyday. You can find lots of good workouts that target certain areas. Also any cardio is great for that. 30 mins a day is what's said to be the right amount to maintain a healthy lifestyle but an hour is better for optimal results. Hope this helped xx

Hi there! Toning up was my main aim after having my 4th child and piling on 30 kilos so here is some knowledge I acquired on my journey back to tone sexy mamma lost 20 kilos in 2mnths. First you have to commit 100% to wanting to loose the weight and than cut back on your sugar n junk cause weight lose is 80% diet n 20% kick ass workout for quick noticeable results. Find a gym that has a good variety of classes and make sure you do weight training as well and increase your weights every week. Try to discipline yourself to workout every day of the week even if its only a 10min workout , checkout youtube for some great 10 min workouts that will leave you breathless (literally:))then leaving 1 day for rest..start over but never do your workouts in the exact same order every week. This will keep your body guessing and keep your weight lose from plateauing . Eventually it will become who you are. Hot n sexy oh n try zumba its a great way to have fun while getting a workout

Hey Hunny, dieting is a waste of time, it's just all about lifestyle change, go back to cave man days no processed foods and a plant based diet is what will not only get your metabolic rate into motion but will make you more energetic and full of life so you will feel more motivated to exercise, i recommend Yoga and strength training don't be a cardio bunny! also Green tea is great just 3 to 4 cups a day will help to kick start your metabolism, Good luck girly i hope this helped! :)

You'll find that if you do 15/20 minutes of cardio before weights you'll find that your body works at a higher optimum and will raise your metabolism, burning more fat. When doing weights chose something suitable. Its about quality over weight so if you're going to heavy your technique will go out the window and you will start using other muscles. So maybe start with a decent weight, not too heavy and more reps per set. This will define your muscle and when you have good technique then go heavy with fewer reps. This will make your muscle bulk. Remember to mix it up. Don't try and work out your whole body everyday as your muscles won't have time to repair. Incorporate power moves and different exercises for the same muscles so your body doesn't become used to it. Exercise is best in the morning, getting your metabolism working for the rest of the day. Make sure you have enough protien in your diet and dont underestimate the importance of rest day!

I havent tried it but heard body rolling is fantastic and not hard to do, not only for toning but it can helpscar tissue issues like internal for women with adhesions, basically you use a soft ball the size of a basket ball or smaller and roll on it in different positions, I think it is yoga and a ball masage combined I do it now and again for adhesions in the belly and after a quick body roll I feel like Ive done 50 situps . As for foods fresh fuits salads and vegies and water plus lots herbal teas, cut out all white sugar and white breads etc if you need a snack have a tiny one and drink a full glass of water with it to help fill you up ,basically dont buy junk foods and when hungry eat healthy.

Best advice- do pilates, and stop eating lots of carbohydrates (if you are that is). Increase the protein to compensate for the carbohydrates.
Walking is great, don't focus on bikes and cross trainers as they increase fitness, and minimally impact overall body musle tone.

the time of day you exercise is important, the two best times are before breakfast and before diner. Doing the same exercise for a long time is more about endurance than developing muscle. Creating a routine where you quickly go though different exercises at around 3-5 minute intervals is best. To begin with start with 3 exercises, do each one for 3-5 minutes, than rest for the same period of time, the do it again. Increase the number of repeats, and exercises in your routine as you get fitter. It's important not to do this to often, for muscle building, preferably once every 2 days.

Do weight training every day, the Les Mills PUMP clases are excellent but i suggest not doing these every day, maybe start with 3 times a week and lift as much weight as you can without of course causing yourself some injury.

make sure you cut out your carbohydrates, exercise at least 40 minutes a day. Eat alot of vegies and fruits everyday. NEVER EVER have cheat days, because all that weight you lost during the week is gunna be gained during one day.!! and most important is to stick with it no matter what, do this for a week isnt gunna make you a model, its gunna take awhile. so never give up and never trust scales :)

The app is free you just have to type in crossfit workouts and a selection will come up. For the prevention magazine try preventionmag.com.au. With crossfit if you do the workout of the day(WOD) you should feel fitter and better. It is hard.

Another exercise you might like to try is crossfit workouts, these can be done at home without too much equipment. Google crossfit workouts, there are heaps. You can also buy an app for your iPhone called workout of the day, which is really good providing a workout each day of the year. Good luck!

Hi, diaooraa

i have had alot of experience in fitness experimenting with different regimes in bulking up, toning all of it, so ill give u my 2cents :)

toning up is more diet then fitness but dont get me wrong you wont see anything without fitness:)

So id start by looking at your diet, to become lean and tone you want to try work a low carb and more protein for the muscle development, So anything between eggs, chicken, nuts, fruit, fish, tuna, rice! try avoid the heavy pasta/wheat meals they are full of carbs and will put weight on fast, (used to gain weight).

For fitness side try look into crossfit, its a sort muscle devlopment but high intensity which burns fat fast!!

so instead of walking on a treadmill for 1 hour where you arn't really pushing your body hard, go for somthing that works a up a sweat, so 10 squats, 10 pushups, 10 lunges, just a mix of exercises that you continually do with little stop, this will get your body to work up a sweat and trust me you will feel it :)

Also toning up arms and that use like 1-5KG dumbells and just do repetetive arm curls and all of that :) youtube is great way to find new things :)

When you say tone up, i take it that you are talking about removing the fat and gaining muscle.
The best foods to eat are lean protein and meat such as salmon and tuna as well as eggs ad brown rice.
These foods contain very little cholesterol and saturated fat and have high amounts of protein that will keep you feeling fuller.
Steer clear of high trans and saturated foods such as take-away, chips, lollies and fried food.
It is great to include both cardio and strength in your workout routine with about 2 sessions cardio and 3-4 strength sessions if you are looking to gain muscle.
There are very specific ways to measure your muscle/ fat content however the easiest would be to purchase a scale that gives you your body fat percentage as well as muscle mass that take into account age, weight, height. They are not the most accurate but are still pretty good.
If you are serious about gaining muscle it would be a good idea to consider including a supplement in your diet like a pre and posit workout shake.

It's not so much what you eat but how many calories you are consuming in the day, keep track using a dairy and see how much you consume on average basis, this will give you some idea about your daily intake. then try to reduce the calories until you start losing weight and inches, toning exercises will also help but the muscle will look leaner the more fat is stripped away from them.

It is about what you eat as calories are in food you need to count calories, you need to find the balance between calorie intake and energy output if your food intake is greater than your energy output(fat burning exercises)than your tipping the balance between the two towards gaining or keeping weight on.This Part of this comment has been removed by a moderator as it violates terms & conditions of the Cafestudy forums.

Do you know any protein shakes (brandsnames) that works well, that are good and arent too expensive?

Maxine's burn protein is fairly well priced and low in carbs, it also has a thermogenic which helps boost the metabolism.

You cant beat swimming!!! It tones up every single muscle in your body and you dont have to do all these different exercises. Just suck your tummy in and swim....freestyle or breaststroke. Give it 3 months at least twice a week for at least an hour. I go at around 8.30 in morn (outdoor pool, even in winter, yes its cold and only heated slightly, but once your in you just dont want to get out) Oh wow it makes you feel so good for the rest of the day, you just want to keep doing stuff. Go for a walk when you get home and feel the spring in your step.!

Hi, I believe the tummy area is related to sugar intake. Reduce your sugar down (and you'll be amazed at what items have loads of sugar) and you should see a difference around the middle. Its not going to happen overnight though.
Swimming is fabulous for the whole body and Aqua jogging is great too. Keep going on the bike as that tones your legs and bottom, and again it wont happen really quickly. Be patient. Not eating carbs after lunch is what I got recommended from a trainer also, as I had enough fuel stored to keep me going. Was easy and works. Good Luck and dont give up.
