Has anyone noticed how prices have skyrocketed in the supermarkets?
We all have but I have noticed that since Covid, manufacturers have decided that they are going to recoup lost revenue from lock down years and they have bumped prices up not just a little bit, but in some cases by a huge amount! And we've all accepted it as normal!!!
Would be interested in reading your thoughts.

I have just completed my online order as l am feeling too ill to go to the supermarket. I always go to 4 supermarkets which are within a 1km line, get my fruit and veg for the green grocer and meat from the butcher on the way home. I bought what we needed as opposed to what l want a couple of double ups as there was a significant reduction this cost just over $120 no bread, meat or fruit and veg, this was for 2 people. We seldom eat out maybe once every couple of months as it is impossible to purchase groceries and go out for a meal. I have notice huge increases in prices and despite the claims there have been price reductions the prices remain well above pre-covid levels. The Royal commission into price gouging l fear will be a toothless tiger, tell us what we already know the supermarket monopoly rules. They cannot make the supermarkets return the excess they have charged we the consumer over the past 2-3 years.
All we can do about it is to be mindful of what we need as opposed to what we want, where possible grow your own and don't be seduced by the rubbish promotions ie the Disney cards, the lego etc etc as we all pay for them and sometimes our children grandchildren can have a life learning experience we dont always get what we want. I am so glad l don't not have a family of adolescents l would be broke!!!!

I have not seen much change. I am a pensioner and go to the fruit and vegy markets and the butcher as it is cheaper than the supermarkets. I get only my basics from the supermarket. Most people just do not look outside the box and just go for convenience

Price of chocolate is through the roof! A 170g block can be $6 ...I only buy when there are promotions .. i.e if it sits around $1.60 per 100g then I'll buy. Coles brand Belgian chocolate is about $1.45 per 100g but only available in dark, milk & white ...but still enjoyable 👍

Yes, their mark ups are a concern to me to me , and with all their declared profit, particularly when the short chain of supply was due to the covid pandemic and 'climate change'.
I think supermarkets should be investigated with a senate inquiry into unfair pricing, it's high time there is an investigation into the market concentration and pricing strategies used by the supermarkets.
Bigger S'markets like coles/woolworths have for too long had too much market power which allows them to dictate prices and terms, all of which are hitting people hard these days.
The cost cutting by these supermarkets to reduce the cashiers at the counters serving customers is most annoying.

I think...

I agree with your statement and believe that for the prices charged they should come home with me to unpack and cook the evening meal lol.
