Do you buy a product based on efficiency or brand name?

I buy cosmetic and handbags based on brand names according to my preference

Option C, all of the above!
I do a fair bit of research on a product I'm purchasing, so at the end of the day I wouldn't buy a product that didn't work purely for the name if the product wasn't good. At the same time, if I know and trust a brand, I'm more likely to overlook a few bad reviews.

For example, I know that Tatcha skincare is a brand that my skin tends to react well too, whereas Kit uses ingredients that my skin doesn't like.
A product from Kit could be incredibly effective, but I'm less likely to purchase it from them as it's a risk when I don't react well to their ingredients. Equally, I'm more likely to try a new product from Tatcha because I know my skin is likely to have a positive reaction.

I am not a person influenced by marketing, other people or a brand name. I always use what works best for me, so efficiency over any brand association or hype.
