Unwanted phone sales calls

I am an exceedingly polite person, always have been and always will be but lately my tolerance level has been breached. Day in day out I get phone calls for solar, telecommunications, finance, health funds and although I’m on the do not disturb register, they continue to call me.
Lately I have found myself telling fibs when they ring. I don’t particularly like myself for it, but I can’t bring myself to be rude to them either.
For some strange reason from a couple of months ago when I get a call and they say “do you have solar” or something similar, I reply “I’m homeless”. That really shuts them up quickly and they even apologise to me. I’m not proud of myself but I have noticed I can get rid of calls very quickly that way.
My apologies to those who are homeless, I feel for you and do not make lightly of your predicament.

Unfortunately, your telephone number is on a list that is bought by a business from third party data brokers. You can report the number to the do not call register as a breach.
We stopped using our home phone years ago. When I was getting these annoying calls, I had no qualms in saying no thank you and hanging up. Nowadays, I don't answer my mobile from an unknown number. If it is important they have the choice of leaving a voice mail for me.
