Home brand vs named brand

Are there brands that you used to buy that are no longer in your local supermarket? What do you think of all these 'home brands'? Are they just as good as the named brands, are they cheaper, or are you still hankering after something in particular that just seems to have disappeared from the shelves? Give us your opinion.

says: Living on a smallish budget for groceries, I always select home brands because they're often cheaper. Unfortunately I usually feel that on some products I am sacrificing quality because of this. However, even without the growing number of home brand products I find it really difficult to select products quickly based on the growing number of brand names creating new products. For example, I buy muesli bars once a fortnight, I really enjoy the "Carman's" ones but they are always so expensive. I either go when they're on special or select another brand. A lot of the "Be Natural" bars are quite good but there are some that are clearly of lesser quality.
