Home brand vs named brand

Are there brands that you used to buy that are no longer in your local supermarket? What do you think of all these 'home brands'? Are they just as good as the named brands, are they cheaper, or are you still hankering after something in particular that just seems to have disappeared from the shelves? Give us your opinion.

Bazz says: There are a number of brands that have disappeared over the years that have been "replaced" with "home brands". I read some time ago that these products were actually no different to the "name brands" to the extent that many were actually made in the same place as as the "name brands". I don't like the way this is going though. We now know how badly the big supermarkets are treating their suppliers plus how terrible the economic climate has been against manufacturing anything in this country. We need to know how things are being made, not just the ingredients >1% that are in the food products we buy. When are companies going to be encouraged to focus more on developing foods that are genuinely good for us instead of playing the "taste - addiction - profits" game?
