Home brand vs named brand

Are there brands that you used to buy that are no longer in your local supermarket? What do you think of all these 'home brands'? Are they just as good as the named brands, are they cheaper, or are you still hankering after something in particular that just seems to have disappeared from the shelves? Give us your opinion.

Sil says: Oh I'm noticing the monopoly in the big two chains, more and more of their own brand. Problem I find is a lot are labelled from local and overseas ingredients, that's a worry as you don't actually know where the product comes from. I like buying Australian and have found big dropping quality of fruit and nuts but prices stay high. I think they should be fair and honest with the consumer and not just be making a profit for shareholders.
