Home brand vs named brand

Are there brands that you used to buy that are no longer in your local supermarket? What do you think of all these 'home brands'? Are they just as good as the named brands, are they cheaper, or are you still hankering after something in particular that just seems to have disappeared from the shelves? Give us your opinion.

Alyssa says: I'll often go for the generic brand option because I have a small budget. There are some items where you can taste the difference, like chocolate and cornflakes, for some there is a huge difference in quality, e.g. have fattier bacon, but things like milk, cheese, eggs there is very little or no descernable difference (for me at least). If I had a larger budget I would lean towards Australian made and owned as opposed to brand name for the sake of brand name
