Home brand vs named brand

Are there brands that you used to buy that are no longer in your local supermarket? What do you think of all these 'home brands'? Are they just as good as the named brands, are they cheaper, or are you still hankering after something in particular that just seems to have disappeared from the shelves? Give us your opinion.

PukPuk says: Home brands are popular as most people go for price. The catch is the source of most of this cheaper product is from subsidised overseas locations meaning Australian producers and processors miss out on the essential sales proceeds to remain viable. Hopefully the recent issues surrounding SPC (and later Woolworths doing a deal) might send the message home - dont collectively whinge about losing your Australian jobs if on the other hand your spending pattern does not give some support the Australian employer/producer/processor.
