Home brand vs named brand

Are there brands that you used to buy that are no longer in your local supermarket? What do you think of all these 'home brands'? Are they just as good as the named brands, are they cheaper, or are you still hankering after something in particular that just seems to have disappeared from the shelves? Give us your opinion.

says: I agree completely with shelly47. The first time I shopped at Coles, the ratio of Home Brand to Name Brand was about 2:5. However, now I notice that that ratio is more like 4:2. Woollies has a bit more variety and I do like their Macro range, but the reality is that Home Brands are running the Local Brands right out of Australia, not to mention the way they exploit the farmers.
