Home brand vs named brand

Are there brands that you used to buy that are no longer in your local supermarket? What do you think of all these 'home brands'? Are they just as good as the named brands, are they cheaper, or are you still hankering after something in particular that just seems to have disappeared from the shelves? Give us your opinion.

says: There are quite a number of home brands that are ok, although it is a bit dissapointing when a brand disappears off the shelf that I have bought / used before for many years. I believe the main supermarkets in this country are pushing for their home brand label and eventually will most probably not stock many of the other brands as we are already seeing. Hence thats why a cheaper price is tagged on their home brand items so the consumer will try them being more affordable to many people / families - my concern although is that if many of the other brands eventually come off their shelves that perhaps we all will be paying a higher price for their home brand products in the future giving us not much choice but to buy only their brand.
