Home brand vs named brand

Are there brands that you used to buy that are no longer in your local supermarket? What do you think of all these 'home brands'? Are they just as good as the named brands, are they cheaper, or are you still hankering after something in particular that just seems to have disappeared from the shelves? Give us your opinion.

chemosa says: Having in the past worked for one of the two major supermarkets, as a Night Manager.

I am fully aware, of what stock is delivered, and the fact is generic products are delivered on the same palates as their NAME siblings.

My understanding is that the generic products are for the most part identical, except for minor imperfections, such as appearance, or packaging.

Consumable products may not have the full compliment of ingredients, but are always safe to eat, and in some cases, depending on personal preferance, better tasting.

One example of my personal taste, is Choc Chip Cookies, I find the generic more appealing than the Name product.

Another example for those with pets, is that the matket is dominated by very few Manufacturers, and the perception of a better quality product may well be, because of the packaging.

Simply, don't show your pet the packaging.

Washing Detergents etc, are the same.

I suggest blind testing, and if you cannot tell the difference, buy the cheapest.

As for items disappearing off shelves, probably because they cannot compete against identical products, sold more economically.

Don't let snobbery, cost you money, if it tastes good, works well, and satisfies it's purpose, buy the cheapest.

Five star restaurants, don't show you what ingredients they are are using.
