Home brand vs named brand

Are there brands that you used to buy that are no longer in your local supermarket? What do you think of all these 'home brands'? Are they just as good as the named brands, are they cheaper, or are you still hankering after something in particular that just seems to have disappeared from the shelves? Give us your opinion.

clutterbug says: Yes, there are definitely more home brands and less named brands at my local supermarket. I think the thing I resent the most about this is that my right to decide is being eroded. On the whole I prefer named brands because I believe the quality is better a lot of times. I also feel strongly that I need to support independent producers. They are slowly being forced out of the market by the big 2, and then we end up with no competition and a monopoly.
