Home Brand vs Named Brand

Are there brands that you used to buy that are no longer in your local supermarket? What do you think of all these 'home brands'? Are they just as good as the named brands, are they cheaper, or are you still hankering after something in particular that just seems to have disappeared from the shelves? Give us your opinion.

I do get home brands wherever possible and wherever I know they are the exact same product. Canned peas are canned peas. In some cases I find the home brand version to be even better. Working at my parents supermarket for many years, I learned that the most part of the difference betweeen prices is just the cost of advertising. The consumer has to pay for the labeling, the fancy jar, the advertisements, the sales reps wages.
With the cost of living being at the level it is, it seems silly to pay more for the same product. Most people don't realise this though
