Home brand vs named brand

Are there brands that you used to buy that are no longer in your local supermarket? What do you think of all these 'home brands'? Are they just as good as the named brands, are they cheaper, or are you still hankering after something in particular that just seems to have disappeared from the shelves? Give us your opinion.

Carolyn P says: Homebrands are everywhere now, especially amongst the two majors (Coles and Woolworths). I've found the quality to be fairly suspect in most: generally cheaper, lower-quality imported foods. I prefer brands, but they are getting harder to find. Many of my friends have switched to independent supermarkets such as Foodland (SA), Drake, IGA, etc. as a form of protest against too many supermarket brands taking over the shelves.
