300 men in detension

I received some very disturbing information today about the RAAF base at Weipa being used as housing for 300 men. These men are paid double the pension (because of hardship) and also $50 a day spending money! They have all meals catered, will not clean up after themselves. React badly when the batteries in the nintendo fail and get this, block the toilets with con doms (remember this houses only men).
Why is this information being kept from the Australian public, why are these men being treated so much better than we treat our own people. Do you know how little some Australians are living on and yet no politician wants to talk about them and no government is helping them.
I can see this country ending up just like the UK and other countries who let people into their countries because of compasion and now these same people are over running the country.
They are only interested in their own culture and religeon and are not interested in the "Australian way of life" They just want live in our country and continue their own ways and not want to blend in.
How can we house all these people and so many single men here is just asking for trouble.

I received an email yesterday regarding this as well, I wonder how long the government intends to leave this people up there and just what the inmates intend to do if they are release one day into the community. I guarantee that they won't adopt the aussie lifestyle, and that their next step would be to bring family here. Which I wouldn't have a problem with if they mixed in and lived the Aussieway, I am an immigrant and I love this place and do my best to be a good citizen, sure I still have a few customs that I brought with me and follow but not to detrement of others. Learning the language and customs of Australia are the most important things a migrant has to do in the first years of residency.

Hi veejay My dad was an immigrant and as soon as he could he became an Australian citizen. He contributed to this country and so did his countrymen. Mind you my dad was from Europe. Australia benefitted from Europeans, English and Asians because they did acccept Australia as their new home and many fought for this country as well. Keeping your culture is great and enriches us all. It is when new comers belittle our culture and beliefs that upsets me and many others.. Local Councils hide away our traditional Christmas decorations so as not to insult others. Can you believe it. This is our country and our culture is not being respected. I dont think multiculturalism is working any more, you can;t blend water and oil!

I am going on a bit further with this discussion after hearing about the riot on Christmas Island and the escape of 300 asylum seekers (I even question using that phrase - more like invaders) the reason they got out of the facility was that the electric fence was switched off because they didn't like it??? This is not a holiday camp these men are potentially a threat to this country and yet our government is once again bowing to their demands. The boy that was allowed to leave the detention centre because his family were lost in the shipwreck had 13 "relatives" leave with him to all go to Sydney! Is the fact that children who come here alone are the forerunners of the rest of the family.Seems to me this the reason they send their children on boats alone so that the rest of the family can come join them? Listening to the Immigration Minister on tv today, wriggling his way out of yet another Labor bungle was pathetic. Their policy or lack of has caused such a major problem I just can't see us recovering from it. Watching Q & A tonight was another sickening experience. I truly belive that show is just a platform for politicians to sprook their idiologies and not a true reflection of what is on the minds of the real population. The PM is so very good at saying what she wants to say and "preach" her solicalist ideas. The audience was not a true democratic mix, too onesided to the left. The amount of money that has been wasted since 2007 is criminal, and yet they continue to waste. This country is the best place in the world to live and that is the main reason people are coming here uninvited. Where does it leave us?

I find it very disturbing to read that they need to refurbish the barracks of ex-military establishments to be 'good enough' for refugees. Hmm.. When I was in the Army I spent many years living the said accommodation and paid for the privelage. So, the accommodation is good enough for our soldiers who protect our freedom and happily assist the community during disasters, however the same accommodation is NOT good enough for uninvited refugees who attempt to enter australia illegally!! This adds up to the Government saying that the refugees deserve better standards of living than the men and women of our own Armed Services.

Note: I know many many people who lawfully immigrated to Australia, and they are good people who have done a lot for our country.

And now yet another announcement from our so called leaders - another 1500 beds to be built to house single men refugees in Darwin ??
What on earth is going on here?? Come on voters, tell the pollies to stop the rubbish they are doing here and send ALL the illegals back to where they came from!! I'm so over our system with this nightmare.

People might learn one day and vote with some thought put into it. Never had these problems under the Howard Government, in fact we had the reverse. The coalition were doing a great job in respect to this type of problem, so if something is working -WHY CHANGE IT ??? And look at the billions that it has cost the country since 2007.
Now look what we have got. Rudd had no idea how to lead a country and adopt policies and now Julia Gillard is doing exactly what BOB BROWN wants because she is frightened to up set the GREENS.
God helps us all
UNBELIEVABLE

Makes you wonder where this asylum problem will end up. Another boat arrived at Christmas Isl. today 53 on board. The retired Afgahn politician in Afgahnistan said that the people who are supposed to be returned to the country( because they do not meet our immigration requirements ) will never happen! The agreemenmt was made last year and now this is going to become a problem too. Seems to me that Australia is not able to say who can stay here and who can not. Is this WEAK government of ours going to stand up to this situation or will they crumble once again. I feel very worried about the number of single men that are arriving here. Are these men going to settle into our way of life? I read a book recently (Bookseller of Kabul) written by Asne Seierstad who lived with an Afgahn family and after reading about the way men treat their women(wives and daughters) we should be very worried about Sharia law and the extremes they practise. Why dont our politicians know these things and prevent people with extreme fundimental religious ideas from becoming part of our country. Australian girls should be wary of relationships with these people they are not what they seem. I think we are in for some very difficult times.

I have not heard of this before reading your post, it is quite disturbing!!!!....I would like to know why this is kept from the TAX payers who foot this bill.
I really think enough is enough, we have people as you say in this country living on less and in situations that are almost poverty there are people living on the streets, going to community kitchens (thankfully they are available) to have a decent meal.
I say we should look after these people before we bring in more, and you are right they don`t want to blend in, I know this because I`v actually seen this, a lot. Politions do not help us but have their own agenda. ..........My goodness that is more money then I get, a 6th generation Australian

Hi 19chris51 thanks for your comment. We all seem to be concerned but listening to the pollies again this morning they have absolutely no problem in preparing another 1500 extra beds to asylum...

I`m not too sure how to go around this, it must be being kept pretty hush, hush, for the media not to sniff this out.
Another 1500 beds, my god why don`t we just send Navy ships to collect them!!!!!!
The hospitals need drastic attention, I am damn angry, I am 6th generation Australian, my children 7th and my grandchildren 8th, yet we get no help, we are not asking for help, but a lot more consideration has to be given to our country, our people, I used to think I was not predious, but a lot lately I have been rethinking and I think I am.
The whole lot of this makes me sick to the stomach, and I think god help generations to come if this is not stopped, we are going to be a country in turmoil, just like the middle east, and who will help our future generations???????? certinally not people from the middle east.

Hi 19chris51 thanks for your comment. We all seem to be concerned but listening to the pollies again this morning they have absolutely no problem in preparing another 1500 extra beds to asylum seekers (all men so far)and do you realise that is more beds than are made available in our hospitals. No one is doing antything about the shortage of hospital beds except talk. Nicola Health Minister just talks and talks. Peter Garrett made a mess (exspensive one) with being in charge of the insulation debarcle and now the very first day the School website is released there are mistakes! We have a government who has absolutley no concern for what the average Australian is saying and keep on making arriving here easier and easier. Where will it all end? I think the media needs to be researching some of these situations a bit more closely and spread the news. Everyone is entitled to know what is happening and just how much of their taxpayer dollars are being spent on foreigners instead of the needy who are Australians.

Thanks for your reply Proteus, I must say I had forgotten about Northam. I have been there (way out west of WA), and it being such a small town I don't know how the town would cope with an influx of that many people, just in water, food and sanitary needs. This govenerment's lack of protection of our borders have caused a major problem that is not going away. The PM doesn't talk about asylum seekers anymore she diverts attention away from vital concerns by talking about unimportant things like her school web page? who cares about knowing what school is doing what? It is just another way to waste money. There are so much waste and there doesn't seem to be any way to end it. How this country is supposed to employ, house, educate and feed so many more people who only want to live in our cities is very worrying. So many alone men arriving is another big problem. Our cities are getting over crowded and transport is becoming a major problem. These people don't want to live in regional ares. Most of these asylum seekers aren't true refergees (they would not have been able to pay the people smugglers if they were truly fleeing a country.) This government bends over backwards to appease these people who really don't like anything about us, it is our country they want. They will never be "Aussies" they aren't interested in our ways, our culture and cetainly not our religon. What is going to become of this wonderful country of ours? What is happening is like an invasion.

Couldn't agree more !! The same thing has been proposed here in West Aust as well - in Northam disused Army camp. Reportedly going to house 1500 or so men only refugees. Wonder what the state govermnet is going to have to fork out to have it all refurbished and refitted etc., to house the inmates so they are catered to and for in everyway? Maybe I should say, what are the taxpayers going to have to cop up with?
