New Year's resolutions

It's been 6 weeks since 2011 started and I was just wondering how everyone was going with their New Year's resolutions, if you made any. They're often to do with improving our health in some way, so I've put my discussion in this category.
I don't usually make resolutions because I know myself and how slack I am! But this year my sister-in-law wanted to do an ocean swim and roped me into it. So I had to make a resolution to swim 3 times a week to prepare for it.
I'm pleased to say I managed to keep it up! We did the swim 2 Sundays ago and survived. Now I'm sadly lacking in motivation to continue going to the pool, with no goal to aim for apart from my health and fitness. Why can't that be enough?!
Anyone else? Are you keeping or breaking your resolutions?

Hi there
I have an exercise & weight goal.I try & walk 5 mornings a week for approx 30-45 mins.(weather permiting of course) There's also all your incidental walking that you do each day.ie:Hanging out the washing, walking to & from the shops, walking around the supermarket, doing your housework, working to & from work, walking from department to department in your chosen work environment etc..etc...

I made a New Year's resolution about 20 years ago to never again make a New Year's resolution - and this one I have kept. I set myself realistic goals during the year which are easily achievable and much more rewarding than setting yourself up for failure on New Year's Eve (often after a few drinks).

well done on your resolution. I make one every year since I had heart trouble in 2005 and I haven't broken it yet. My New Years resolution is simple and that is just to keep breathing. Its worked so far lol

I made my resolution at the end of January, rather as a New Years resolution. I will be 50 at the end of the year and decided next January I want to be FIT and FIFTY, not fat and fifty. I've started walking with a friend, but when she backs out I don't make her excuse my excuse - I still walk anyway. I've attended some trial gym classes and I think I'll sign up for at least a few months. I'm on a healthy diet and am happy that I have set myself an attainable goal !!! So watch out next summer !!!

My resolution is based on health, and specifically managing my diabetes. For a year, I let it go and have suffered physically and mentally as a result.
I thought about my wife, the kids I wish to bring in to the world, and all the time I wish to enjoy with them all - and that has inspired me to improve.
My goal is to keep my average blood glucose level below 10 (normal person is about 4), and i am happy to say i have stuck to it. Every now and then i go over but its a vast improvement on the high teens and low twenties i was suffering with...
Next year i will make it below 8, and i look forward to a long and happy healthy life

My New Years resolution is a four year resolution, so it's been hard to get straight into it. Worked hard for most of January and then got injured but should be getting back into it tonight at the atletics track.
As for taking more photos, I just got a brand new D-SLR in December and there are some cool websites you can join which have competitions each month on a specific topic to photograph, you should check those out if you are wanting some motivation.
Good luck for the rest of the year.

I must admit that I don't make New Year Resolutions. Not keen to disappoint myself! However, I find that when my general health and energy are down my motivation drops as well, so I keep myself well nutriated with healthy food and high class nutritional supplements. This also helps with keeping weight down of course. Good walking always raises my spirits!

Well done on keeping your resolution for so long! I always think that I can use last year's resolution each year - it's as good as new!
My resolution each year is to take more photo's. This year I'm also trying to keep healthy and stay fit. I have signed up to livestrong.com, which is a great place to track your fitness progress.
I have no idea how to keep up the motivation though, and would also be keen to find out what other's do. I have read that it's best to change your routine every 6 weeks, so maybe this is the key?
Good luck with your ocean swim!
