I subscribe to Hub Pages and I have recently realised I have a talent for poetry which I never had before. Good for me!

hi all you people with writers block. my tip is to get a HUGE writing pad,[ not the computer that's too mechanical] and just write any rubbish. you will soon see that the words and ideas will start to flow .After a few days you will see a theme start to emerge. then you can throw away the bribble you started with. The act of physical writing does it for me, then I can go to the computer. May be different for others?

If you are interested in getting some ideas and reading some narrative verse , google David Lewis Paget. His works are on many poetry sites and availble in books. Well worth a look. He lives in Sth Aus

I love reading, I've read consistently since I was young. I've always kept journals too, I love writing and keeping memories of things I've done, where I've been, people I've met. Plus it's therapeutic. I feel bad when I go to bed without jotting something down in my diary. I also discovered a liking for writing my own poetry about 6-7 years ago. I've written quite a few poems now and although I am not sure they're of any quality, my family say they're really good. All I know is I enjoy it.

You don't have to read a book. Sometimes a magazine article,or something you've seen on TV.can give you an idea. Or even something you see when you're out and about. Don't try too hard to get inspiration, and it will come.

Hey sassygirl, let's have a wee taste of a poem
and be content in the knowledge
that you just had to show em
...

I would write a poem
if I could think of anything to say
but as my mind a blank
I cannot contribute today
I have in the past
written many many lines
but the urge has seemed to have left me
and I await more creative times
there are words in my head that reverberate
but I cannot continue the theme
I will tell you these random lines
'Lilies and watermelon
my addictions on the left
He stands and stares at nothing
in the early morning sun'

how clever you tackled the pledge
to surprise us bit
and let us all know
that we all can do it
if only for show.
How about it Sassy, your turn I think

Sometimes we just get a mental block, and the more you try to think of a subject the harder it gets! Do you read much? If you do, sometimes what you read will give you an idea for a poem.

Good on you, yes that's the main thing, keeping the mind busy. Good luck with your thoughts, keep them going and don't forget to document them.

Thanks for your tips suzieq. I've come to realise that poetry, especially modern poetry, does'nt have to rhyme, which makes composing easier

It's amazing how easy it is when you get started, sometimes I just start thinking about things and make peoms out of them, or if you like to call them ditty's. You should definitely keep a journal or something for future reference, maybe to be handed down to you grandchildren???

I am thinking of a journal. I find i can compose a poem about any subject I might suddenly think of although a lot of the other Hubbers are way ahead of me.It certainly keeps my brain active and i guess that's the main thing
