Adds on pay TV

I had been paying for Austar TV for fifteen years and in the last three years I had noticed the huge increase of adds for actual products and not for the tv shows. It finally got to much and I cancelled my subscription, you would have thought I was thier last customer. I had a phone call nearly every day for a week and about the same sms's telling me how much they were improving the service. Until then the only time you heard from them was when you were late making a payment. With the new free to air digetel channels I do not miss pay tv that much, only I can not get my favourite westen shows anymore.

I totally agree. I got Foxtel ten years ago so I didn't have to be subjected to constant ad breaks. Now there as many as there are as many as free-to-air.

I agree. Why pay extra money for the same product you get for free. On pay tv there shouldn't be any ads at all.

I agree with what everyone has written here, I noticed your comment about the
" extra boxes "
What I did was went to Harvey Norman, and you cna buy a thing that picks put the foxtel signal, you plug it into the main tv where the foxtel is, then plug the other part of it into the room where you want to watch it, it has a range of
100 metres.

As I love me soccer, then this way I can watch the soccer in my room without getting up in the cold early hours of the mornings.

Just a thought I would pass on to you, as times are tough, but I cannot go without me foxtel, not after the amount of time I have had it.
I would be totally lost without it, as I have all the sport channels, and hardly watch any free to air tv at all.

I to have been with Austar for 4 yrs now and also i was getting sick of adds so I rang them and you would not believe what they did , i was given 4 box office movies, they took off having to give them x number of weeks notice. Have you thought about the new adds running on the net in regards a company that has movies and music videos for a yearly fee of 27.95 for as many as you want also they give you at no charge a system to record all you want . They say they have about 10 million movies, should be some westerns in amongst them. Sorry Araman can't remember the name, if i see it again will post it here

I watch Foxtel at my dad's house, and am constantly struck by how many ads there are, and how repetitive they are. To me it seems like a terrible con trick - paying money to be shown not much more than ads!

i agree- way too many ads, plus it seems that they repeat the same episodes over and over.... or i can never find anything i really want to watch!
With free to air tv having so many more channels these days, pay tv seems pointless.....
Plus, i, more often that not, would rather sit down with a good book ;)

Pay TV has most likely increased their advertising due to the more people that sign up to Pay TV making it more valuable to advertisers. As the person above has said that it does need to make its money and no doubt this is so it can screen the show it does...

I think the purpose of Pay TV is to show TV shows that the free to air channels do not which it does so I don't see any harm in having ads run throughout the shows (hence why I still have Foxtel and watch it). You'll probably notice this will occur on the new free to air digital channels too once more people tune to them as well I imagine..

if the only reason you miss Pay TV is because you can't watch the Western Show then i think it was a wise move to cancel the subscription and save yourself some money :)

I agree with you completely, we have had foxtel for a couple of years now and it is ridiculous how many ads that they have. I understand that they need to make money but the amount that we pay a month for the whole package with extra boxes makes me really dislike them. I do like that the AFL that they show is ad free during the game which is one of the main reasons that we decided to go with pay tv in the first place, when that changes I dont know if it is worth keeping any more.
