I am thinking of purchasing solar panels for my home. Has anyone got them? What are your thoughts? Are they worth it? How long did it take to recoup your initial outlay?

I just had them installed a few months ago and yes, I've had one reduced electricity bill since the installation. :)
At the outset, I wanted to be more self-sufficient and include a battery to the install, but if you've already got quotes, you know that batteries are so expensive, a Powerwall, for example, would take 16 years before you break even with them...when it only comes with a 10-year warranty. So, you're kinda taking a gamble on their efficiency for at least 6 years after its warranty has ended and that's just to get your money back! I'd only get a battery if I was made of money... sadly, I'm not :(
I installed a 9.2 kwh system with an 8.2 kwh inverter and the estimates are that I will break even in 6 yrs.
Are they worth it? Only time will tell, however there is a comforting feeling in knowing you're doing something to address climate change. And I imagine that it will improve your property's market value if you ever plan to move.
