As a teacher, I fully aware of the need for a good speech level. It grinds me when I hear commentators, who have an influence on listeners, saying for a score of 3 - 0...."Three and OH". It should be 'Three and Zero". Come on up the levels of excellence !

I absolutely agree, what annoys me is that our children are losing the ability to spell due to computer abbreviations.

Thank god the Super 15 has started back up.... without rugby on the box, it tends to make sporting viewing (from my prospective) minimal for me to watch anything else on the box... now waiting for the NRL League to start in two weeks... then im set for the year.... World Rugby 2011... my pick to win the world cup.........

As an ex teacher, it gripes me when I hear commentators saying "have got". Listen and you will hear it again, and again. No need for the word got at all, it is lazy speech and should be wiped out.

As a teacher of 38 yrs I was always particular about correct spelling & punctuation.....but of course we in competition with email / sms ways, poor speech in the general population and even TV ads, etc.
Lots of reading of correct English and we get to recognize that a word is wrongly spelt immediately.
But correct spelling is so often linked to correct English (orally & written)

Forget the commentators language...they are all round just pathetic. There comments are a joke!!!

sounds like you need a hobby if the commentator are your topics of discussion... i could say a lot of things i dont like about teachers as well but teachers are golden... makes you think doesnt it...

Teachers also need to learn punctuation and proper grammar and spelling in order to be able to teach our children properly these days. I read my son's school report and am disgusted at the spelling and grammatical errors that are constantly in their comments sections. If teachers don't know how to spell how are they to teach others.

How true - my son is a teacher with 30 years experience and he still spells "pretty " as "pritty".

also the americanism of our sports irks me to death! In cricket there is a batsman, not a batter, thats baseball.
