I wonder what some people actually talk about when they meet the people they chat on mobiles. Maybe they never meet them?

I was in a coffee shop when a couple came in and sat down with their coffees and had no conversation at all while they were there because they were on their mobile phones successively calling or texting for all that time, roughly half an hour!

Or when they meet maybe they still talk on their phones. My niece and her friends will all be sitting together and be texting each other.

nothing really as the only people i talk to are family or friends (sometimes tech support, thus never 'see' them) so i talk as like i do on my phone :))

Like others here, I rarely ever use my phone to make calls. Only receive or send sms mostly.
I must be one of a very unique bunch of people - I've never yet had an occasion call someone or answer a call to tell the world "I am on the train"! Quite proud of that!

I'm with you aussiejohn. But it seems like today's mobile phones do anything but make phone calls anyway.

I use my mobile to make appointments, find information or things like that never to just chat.Very handy to have in an emergency.$10 a month gets me over $30 worth of calls -may as well use it.

I don't ever to chat to people on my mobile that I don't know in real life. Even online I rarely chat to anyone I don't know quite well in person...my mobile and internet are basically just extensions of our ability to communicate with each other. And very handy ones at that!

I have one rule on a mobile. If it cannot be done in 29 seconds then the mobile phone isnt used except for maybe sms.

I bought my first mobile ever about a year ago. So far I have made one call! Bought it to have in the car for emergencies but it is always flat, and its just not worth putting money on that becomes void after 3 months. If someone wants to reach me urgently they'll just have to call back on the landline when I'm out. And for most people etikette seems to have gone out the window: one guy, three calls during one movie at the cinema!

Maybe thats the idea!

I don't know that it is the idea at all.
Don't you see that guy or gal in the supermarket phoning their spouse (who they probably saw 10 minutes prior).
They need to confirm what brand of peanut butter to buy.
Or something important like "do we need toilet rolls."
Other important information like I'm about to arrive at where I was going to when I left the house.
Or even what's for dinner.
Or "you didn't ring me to pick something up at the shops so I'm ringing to ask."
It's all vital stuff when you can't make a decision without a discussion
