Piracy

I can happily say I download movies illegally. Why? Because in Australia we as citizens are left with little alternatives. Compared to other countries to see a movie in a theatre we have to pay close to 20$ for a ticket, which is absolutely absurd. Also compared to other countries, movies aren't avaliable months after they are released around the world, which is almost tell us to pirate movies. The government is trying to ban piracy, which I don't have a problem for but instead of trying to fix piracy, the government should work with these companies to figure out a solution. Then maybe people will feel more obliged to pay for a movie rather than steal it. I would be happy to give up piracy.

It's an oft-quoted fact that Australians are amongst the most prolific pirates in the world. Has anyone looked into why? To hazard a guess, it's because of:
-Film distributors have a long history of stuffing about (even now, John Wick Chapter Two for instance)
-TV networks that delay shows, flog reality rubbish and stuff ads into programs like Gordon Ramsey stuffing a turkey (ratio of story:ads on Hamish & Andy's True Stories for instance)
-A long-standing cable TV monopoly that finally may have to be competitive with the recent arrival of Netflix and Stan
-Cinemas with skyrocketing prices and ever-increasing advertisements delaying film start times
-Really good Internet connections for downloading goodies that the afore-mentioned have not delivered in an efficient and effective manner.

Too many have been burnt for too long and the result was inevitable. Not saying this justifies piracy but it certainly doesn't make it surprising.

Yes I believe the prices in Australia are absurd.
I'm not up to date with movie and tv content, so I cannot comment on that one.
But I also like to watch shows that are no longer, or not currently available.
Do you expect us to track down each and every dvd of a certain series when they are at our fingertips via the Internet?

Is all content even available for purchase?
