Government & Politics

At this time of uncertainty & economic problems around the world & here in Australia, we look to the government of the day to lead us out of the doom & gloom. We have problems with the drought, education, public transport & job losses. These problems can not be fixed overnight but we need to have a clear vision of what the government plans to do so that we can have a positive outlook for the future. We don't need ministers going overseas to see how they have resolved their problems, with today's technology & communications they can access everything they need by computer or teleconferencing. Instead of throwing grants at the people this money would be better spent installing Solar Power to every house where it's viable, installing water tanks on every property to help reduce the strain on our catchments & water facilities, then we also have a challenge with our public transport especially in Victoria where the government has spent millions on welding all the rail tracks which was to speed up train services well it did not work & they have spent a fortune on the MIKI card which is way behind time & still not working. We have to accept some of the blame for all these problems because we voted in some of these government ministers but we should have been more active & having our say in some of the policy making. It's not to late yet we have many resources here in this wonderful country & we can fix all these problems by working together & making your Local & Federal Government listen to us after all we put them there. Shortfalls will always arise in government policies.

Adequate resource allocation of funds for state and local levels are very important.

The state government has a large enough shortfall and is why state police must take on board this shortfall and administer. Human resourcing is always inadequate in this area and contributes to the states problems.

This government needs to allocate spending for desal plants and green technologies and to administer the overlap of powers. This could mean that more advanced bureau adjustments globally can be made upon these state types.

We the voter's & employers of the federal MP's now have the oppertunity to take back some control of this wonderful country Australia. We must hold the elected members & the oppisition parties accountable for the mistakes that they have made on our behalf but without any proper consultation with us before making these decisions. We have an aging population here but we must not forget what they have done for this country by building a safe place where our children could get a good education & medical attention equal to any other country in the world. Sadly in the last 20 to 30 years we have given up our right to keep our politicions honest, we do not need globe trotting MP's in this day & age of technology where we can access everything via the internet even conference's in other countries & we have the ability to be heard at these places & we can make speaches plus put forward our thoughts & input into them. So fellow Australians please make a stand now before it's to late. I will close now with a famous quote : Keep the Bastards Honest.

for years, we in queensland have pitied those in nsw and vic with their labour governments that have wasted our taxes ( o/s travel, stupid public transport descisions etc etc) but unfortunately we look like we're now following down the same well worn path - ministers that are wasteful, years of no infrastructure spending , a great hospital system that is slowly getting screwed... the crap just doesn't stop..... where to next for the lucky country???

Come on Australia, Come on! All governments, State and Federal are elected officials and we pay the wages of the opposing governments as well don't we? Time for a change though throughout the Country, don't follow Tony Abbotts lead and everytime something happens get in front of a camera and POINT YOUR FINGER at the current administration all that shows is that he has a gift for pointing out the obvious - do they think we are living in a box.
We want to know you can do to fix the issue and if you're an Australian pollie isn't it your duty to participate in the governing process not by criticism but active participation whether you're in government or not!
So as I go to work each day by train and I listen to people bitching about the state or fed government I realise that Australians are turning whinging in to a career.
Thats the part that floors me, we aren't living in a box, we are in a community and yet pollies both state and federal feel it's necessary to provide us with a history of whatever government is in power.
WE KNOW and don't be so quick to point it out because many of us remember the last time your party was in power and GOT VOTED OUT.
An example, as the Rudd government attempts to impose a 40% tax on the mining industry, Tony Abbott points his finger - no alternative solution offered. Mining companies can not deny that they have posted super profits for years now, their shareholders will not move their investment anywhere else because we live in a resource dependent world and they will still get a dividend. It's either corporations that must help pay the bills or us.
As the NSW state government prepares to sell off assets that provide the state with a very good income, the state opposition points it's finger - no alternative solution offered.
Some jobs will go but far worse that income for our state will be forfeit for a one off payment. Its almost like they are looking for instant satisfaction instead of long term sustainability.
We know about dud public transport systems in Sydney too, the stupid plan to put a light rail to Balmain/Rozelle that got binned was going to cost, but now we're going to pay because it got shelved but why build a light rail to an area that is serviced not only by buses but ferries.
Kids out of control on the roads in high performance cars-what do we do, slap them on the hand and say don't do it again. The entire country should embrace the Hoon law, slaps on the hand just asks them to pay their fine and to consider not doing it again - impounding the vehicle and crushing it ensures they remember what they have done and plenty of time to consider what they will do differently next time.
Does all of this matter, yep! Does Victoria and NSW remember Nathan Rees, he was so bold as to change laws so that he could say "I'm the Premier and what I say goes" and proceed to screw everything including his own party.
Stand up Australia!

As you mentioned - the voters put these people in their positions of responsibility - don't forget that we can have a say. Use your local member either indivisually or as a group to present your ideas AND remember not to just criticise, but offer practical solutions to give your local member something to work with.

Yes i do actively contact my local members & elected council members in regards to problems that need to be looked at & i also offer suggestions that may assist them when making their decisions. I am disabled but still offer help in my community anywhere that i can make a difference. I have just noticed in todays Herald Sun that the federal government are now going to penilaise pensioners & carers who have installed Solar to help our enviroment they are now going to have a reduction in their pensions for any credit they get from their power company. We have a government who has lost its way both fedral & state of Victoria firstly the insulation debacle & the train/transport system in Victoria, both of these problems i have registered my complaint's to the revelent people & i have made some suggestions for them to look at. I have just returned from Europe & used the public transport mainly in Zurich it was a dream, trains & trams on time & clean plus cheap & also smooth traveling with hardly any sound.
