We support people who volunteer (surf lifesavers), seeing eye dogs, many of the various cancer organisations, - the list goes on. Door knock appeals get their share too. When tax time comes, we hand over the receipts and get the promised quota back. I do think that $1 from each person's wage each fortnight would amass a fortune, and in e.g. January 33% goes to cystic fybrosis, 33% goes to seeing eye dogs, 33% goes to Mental Health care, and so on. Besides or voluntary donations, this wold help enormously and in the end, wage earner would be donating $52 per annum. Maybe, a portion of a product (chosen as a token contributor) sold during a particular fortnight or week, could be matched $ for $ by the government for a particular charity. That way 52 charities could benefit for that particular year. Just an idea that need to be modified,

With so many scams and identity theft going on who would know whether the person is collecting for the said organization when they came to your door
