Are we truely controlled by society and what we rae bought up to believe is the right thing to do,or are our decissions based on what at the end of the day we say fits? This is a pondering question for me and some of my friends...Are we all doing what makes us happy or society rules and why?

It depends if your a slave to society or not. If you can get out of the trends and material, and non material wants and pressures that society puts on us then your not doing what makes you happy. Other wise society rules.

I think once you start questioning what is right and what is wrong and who is the authority on the matter, your awareness increases and you have the power to make your own mind up. There is a lot of ego-feeding in society and the economy needs it to thrive. Imagine if we all let go of our egos and stopped buying crap to make ourselves feel better about ourselves! I left home at a fairly young age (17) and now have completely different beliefs to my parents, thankfully. I can see that many of their beliefs are controlled by society, like it's far worse to smoke a joint than to binge drink, because drugs are illegal. I wonder if their opinion would change if soft drugs were legalised? For me, decision making becomes a whole lot easier when I consider my values - To have integrity, to respect myself, others and the earth, to live my truth, to be open to learning. It time to get out of the head and into our hearts!

I agree society has become very politically correct these days.
However, I beleive these people in customer service should behave themselves as we are after all paying customers and should not be attacked for no reason as some of these people do

That is why I don't muck around now, because their many people in customer service that think nothing will occur to them. So if the manager on duty does not respond professionally to what I have explained happened. i go above his head. As most of the stores are corporate now. And don't want work of mouth on multi- media site's. It is extremely damaging.
Don't get me wrong I have only carried this out about 3 times in my life, in 50 years! But I have had positive response......

One women even got the sack! I didn't expect it to be that harsh. But she was overly rude to me. And verbally, "Head Office" could not believe what she had said to me when I rattled it off to them.

Getting back on the subject, maybe we should not tolerate a lot of what we do in society. Maybe we should say what bother's us when it does!!!

Hmm, no doubt society plays a big part in how we thnk, what we do, what's right and what's wrong etc., but again, so do our parents and their beliefs and also their upbringing. They pass on to us, what they were taught, and that include their hatred, phobias and the like. Having said that, I also think that the media has a great deal to do with how society is controlled as well. The media has a role to sell newspapers and to make you watch the gossip columns etc., and when it comes to everyday life, they tend to put across their own point of view and make in compelling to agree with them, mostly anyways. I still believe that it is up to each individual to make up his or her own mind on whatever matter concerns them, and if the majority disagree, well, don't we have the right to be differnet? I for one am very tired of the "political correctness" that is prevelant in todays society, eg., don't smack your children - I got a smack or two when I was younger for doing something wrong, and I certainly learnt from it. That's my opinion for what it's worth.

I believe we are firstly controlled by our parents believes then what group we run with.
But in the end parents ingrain on us a believe in our childhood that shapes us and we seem to be incapable of changing those views to our own.
At the end of the day, we have to live in the rules society and our parents and theirs before them have created for us and if we want to be different it will extract a price, from loneliness to being shunned even.

Why is it in todays so called "Modern World" people women anyway, want to compete with you even when out and about shopping, going into a pub,
a restaurant, like never before, its like you feel a need to prove yourself to others, even I find a lot of females are very rude in customer service in shopping centres, I only do my shopping there and expect people to be polite and do their job not be rude sticky beaks that they seem to be now heavens I do not owe these people anything. Only want to do my shopping in a nice relaxing atmosphere

what do you think?

In today's world , I find that society has got a lot to answer for.Not only in the fashion stakesa but in everday life.We are told who to like and dislike, what to buy,etc..Lately i have come across friends that are against me having others friends they don't like, also dating a hated soul..Is this also society controlling us and the way we are to think,do and act?

in the so called modern world that society claims, it is all about really dictatorship and if you don't adhere to what others think then they say you don't fit in. I don't want people of today telling me how to live my life and today society is very cut throat and very judgemental

Unless we as people are strong enough to go with what we believe in as people, I think, yes society controls or tries to control us.
