When it comes to 'liking' page on Facebook, do you often support small businesses?

Facebook is used for many advertising materials now and companies. Many small businesses start on Facebook to gain their audience. Do you think it's a good idea to gain audiences on Facebook for a business? Especially when they're just starting out?

I like quite a few Facebook pages that I have bought stuff from on Etsy - an online craft type site.

I think it's a good idea, because often they promote themselves with discount codes on their Facebook pages - so it's a bit of an incentive.

I think it can definitely help businesses if they do this via their Facebook page, I think it helps encourage brand loyalty.

I think it is a great idea as it creates you a contact list should you need to promote your products and also is a good way to get around by word of mouth or in this instance, word by Facebook.

As someone who maintains facebook for an independent book store I have found that facebook is a good way to allow customers to contact the business directly. You don't need to spend money on it to build your audience but it does take time. The thing is that a big audience doest necessarily translate to an increase in customers. It also doesn't mean that you will have an active audience, just because they like the facebook page doesn't mean they will look at it or click/like on posts. It does make more people aware of the business though.
