Same problem, our old pets used to just eat when they needed to, now the new ones just eat compulsively

i have a beautiful maine coon that never seems to get full and keeps singing out for more. there is always dry food for him but keeps coming back for the wet food. Sometimes up to four a day just to shut him up., but i dont want him to get too fat.

Maybe your cat has worms. If so, he/she isn't getting any nutrition, being hungry.

Cats are grazers. They are designed to eat lots of small meals during the day. In the wild, they will have a nap, go and eat a mouse, have a nap. Go and eat a lizard, have a nap. They aren't like dogs, who can be fed once a day.

MY FRIENDS CAT WOULD CONSTANTLY EAT AND THEN SHE HAD TO TAKE HIM TO THE VET AND HAVE ITS EYE CHECKED AND LUCKY SHE DID, IT TURNED OUT THAT HER CAT HAD CANCER IN HIS EYE AND THATS WHY HE WAS EATING ALL THE TIME, SHE HAD THE EYE REMOVED AND NOW HE IS BACK TO NORMAL

She probably should not eat all day long. If the tins are those tiny ones, she may not be getting enough at one feed. Switch to a bigger can and give her breakfast and some for dinner. Probably just a bit more than the tiny cans, if she is a big cat. If she is elderly, she may want to have 3 little meals. One of my cats is old and she likes to have a nibble several times a day. Worming them helps too.I always have water and some dry food there 24/7, as my 3 have a nibble throughout the day when it suits them. good luck with your puss.

Hi chris l to have a cat that eats all the time and is so skinny but l know she has the start of kidney failure she is about 12 years old. the vet gives her protein injections about every 2 months...

Thank you Sen. You were right it was age. He finally passed away peacefully at just over 18 years of age. I think the yowling was a demand for attention and reassurance, which he demanded more and more. Despite having two other cats, the house is so quiet now and I miss him.

He has taken to yowling / howling for no good reason that I can see, and he doesn't appear to be in distress, it just distresses me. I offer him food then, and he just nibbles bits comes to me yowling and pawing at my leg. I cuddle, stroke, check his food bowl, open the door so he can go out but he doesn't want any of this. I think it's just part of his ageing process.

I am preparing myself for his departure, and spoiling him like crazy at the end of his "innings".
