Depending if carpet was new when you moved in else could actually be more than mould - I have recently brought a house and it had smell that ended up being from pets so ripped it up. If you really do believe it is mould Google or maybe try mould remover however once mould appears anywhere will after all the cleaning and different cleaning solutions will re-appear after month or so. Best of Luck

sprinkle with bicarbanote of soda, and leave for a while, it will absorb smells, go out for a while and come back and vacuum, should do the trick..repeat if necessary

Depending on how large the mould is I would consider ripping the carpet up and replacing it much better for your health and the individuals and pets in the home.

If this is not an option, DO NOT USE BLEACH IT DOESN'T KILL MOULD IT JUST BLEACHES THE COLOUR OUT!

If the area is small fill a spray bottle with 1/2 teaspoon of oil of cloves to 1 litre of water no more than that! Cloves kills the mould spores. Spray the surface and leave for 20minutes. Wipe the surface clean the re-spray and leave it.

It takes between 1 to 2 days for the mould spores to die but it works a treat!

When the carpet is completely dry, hire a steam cleaner and do it yourself, use half the recommended amount of soap and add the following.

2 tablespoons of bi-carb soda
2,tablesppons of white vinegar
2 tablespoons of methylated spirits
2 teaspoons of eucalyptus
2 teaspoons of glycerine.

This will remove any residue mould and clean your carpet. One thing to identify is the cause of the mold. Is it condensation from inadequate ventilation in a room.
