well i am on a disability pension but i prefer to get my dogs washed by the mobile groomers that way my dogs dont go too far from home and are ready clean and dry when they come back in to me, obviously they are indoor dogs so dont need to be done too often, i find that if i get them done every 8 weeks its affordable and easy for them to take.

I agree that it is better to get your dogs washed by the mobile crooners not only do they come back clean and dry, you know for sure that they will be getting a good wash withproper treatment and the nails and things get trimed propley not only that it would be cheaper then buying all the equipment yourself.

I have not tried a mobile dog wash to wash our dog as I dont know how much it costs. When we wash Lucy we need two family members as she is inclined to shake all over the place and we get wet

It is natural instinct for a dog to shake off water when they get wet enough. One dog we had we bathed outside. She always shook water off. We got to know when she would, and we would stand back for a few seconds then start to dry her with old towels. (We bought ourselves new ones and used the older ones for her) She was a Border Collie so we needed more than one towel to get her reasonably dry.
We had a lot of concrete in our yard and we walked her regularly so we were lucky her claws didn't grow too long. We got the vet to do them when she had her vaccinations or went for any other reason.

I always washed my pet myself until lately. Now I use a dog groomer once in a while that also cuts his nails, I don't like doing it, and cleans his ears.

That may be a wise decision. An elderly couple who live near me have 2 small dogs. Both are disabled so they have their dogs professioanlly bathed and clipped. They heard about a moblie one at charges the same rate as the one they used to take them to so they decided they would give that a try in case of sickness. They do sometimes do them themselves but find it very difficult
Within 48 hours both of them started scratching, one much worse than the other - very red patches and hair completely gone in small areas. They rushed them to their vet. who diagnosed "hot spots" , gave the dogs "shots" and cream to be put on the red itchy patches. The vet told them it could have been from the clippers the groomer used, that their either didn't cut properly or weren't clean.
Until I saw the red patches I wasn't aware that they were using a groomer.
One dog isn't very friendly, I don't think he would ever bite but I don't want to risk it so I haven't volunteered to do them, partly because it have a medical problem that reacts badly to pain. I am liable to faint.

I like to wash my 2 dogs myself as well, but am interested in professional groomers, but find doing it myself saves money.

I have no trouble washing my Jack Russell myself but it is quite impossible to cut his nails. I hate the idea of an anaesthetic for something so simple but eventually I'll have to front up for that and get his teeth cleaned too. He's 9.
