Does everyone realise that some of the big beauty companies still do Animal Testing on Cats, Dogs, Monkeys etc. Especially when there are modern alternatives that work better anyway. They can grow human skin and test on that.

Good news is we can do something about this. Choose to only buy from the companies that don't do it.

Revlon, Natio, Face of Australia, Gaia, Australis, NYX, BYS are just a few from the good list. I love their products. I was surprised by some products I had that still do the testing. Like L'oreal, QV, YSL, etc.

PETA have a list of companies that do and don't test on animals.

and for Australian products check out
http://www.choosecrueltyfree.org.au/

I was unaware of the facts and felt highly distressed about this. But have stopped buying the bad companies products and also email the bad companies to tell them so.

What do you all think?

Yes l have just been made aware of this and l am horrified ,when l read the article in the herald sun about the testing on primates and other animals l did some research and to say l am disgusted and so saddened to think of the torture these poor little creatures go through all in the name of science .well l to will not buy any product that is tested on animals .l sent a couple of emails off to some of the bigger companies one being colgate Palmolive who are known as still testing on animals , and said l would never use their products again l never heard anything back but l really wasn't expecting too they make a huge variety of things which l had no idea they made so now when l shop l check everything before l buy it some products have a little picture of a rabbit on them saying they do not test on animals so l always look for that as well the only way to stop this barbaric thing is DONT BUY THEIR PRODUCTS.LET THEM KNOW IS JUST ISNT GOOD ENOUGH

I was unaware that companies still test on animals in this day and age. Would not buy any products from these companies no matter how good they were. Being a pet lover this makes me feel sick.

Hello, I have to agree with the comments already been made.
I myself represent Avon Australia in a Leadership capacity and I'm proud to say that none of our products are tested on animals!

Cruelty to any animal truly upsets me and I have no tolerance of this at all.

Jewell I hate to be the bearer of bad news but Avon, Revlon and Mary Kay all started up Animal Testing again as they are now selling into China. See the article link below

Your research into this Jade has been great. I was a vegetarian for 8 years before becoming a vegan last year. While vegetarian I tried to choose products that weren't associated with companies that test on animals but had no idea until becoming vegan and doing a lot more research exactly how many big companies still test the products overseas and then Australia sells the products. It is disgusting the way animals are treated and there is no reason why any company should be testing as there are other ways for them to test the products, unfortunately $$$$ and the easiest thing to do seems to be the way to go for many companies but they certainly don't have my business anymore

That's great Jade with all that you are doing. After being vegan for just over a year now I still struggle a bit with some food items that you assume would have no dairy in them but do so I read...

I still have really bad feelings in my tummy everytime I think of the animal cruelty from eating/using animals as food/fashion etc. Go to sleep feeling unsettled.

It's amazing how you try to tell the people you know and they get defensive about their right to harm animals and even get really angry with you. Then say things like, but you need to eat meat and drink milk because you won't get your calcium. When I post stuff on facebook they won't look at it, because it is too horrific yet they are happy to let it happen by buying the animal products.

We can only do what we do and try and make people aware of their choices and that yes there is a choice. We don't have to remain brainwashed by the dairy and meat industries.

You have a good weekend too.

Yeh I am swapping over to non dairy and non animal product food. It hard because the dairy industry has a large stronghold. But if you do a lot of searching you can find food suitable.

That's great Jade with all that you are doing. After being vegan for just over a year now I still struggle a bit with some food items that you assume would have no dairy in them but do so I read the labels on everything new I want to buy. I gave up leather products around 5 years ago and that is tough as it is a lot harder to find good quality shoes that don't contain leather but on the upside I spend a lot less on shoes now and get very excited when I find shoes that I love that don't have leather in them, handbags and wallets are easy to find in non-leather.

I haven't see Joaquin Phoenixs documentary but have seen heaps of other ones and when I looked at different footage from the live animal exports I had nightmares for weeks and still now at times don't sleep properly.

For me as well it is great to be able to have these discussions as sometimes I feel like I am from another planet as amazing how many people (my beautiful family & friends included) just turn a blind eye to everything and don't like to think about it - I am so happy that I couldn't do that and have no guilt about my lifestyle.

Hope you have a good rest of your weekend

I feel bad about using makeup that has animal byproducts in it and am taking steps and researching products for my next purchases of makeup to products that are all plant based.

I think after the news aired about the abysmal treatment of our cattle in Indonesias (and now in NSW) abattoirs alot of people have awoken to walking through this daze that we all seem to be in. Now is the time, with the internet/Facebook era upon us to start, as consumers, to making ethical choices that we can live with.

That being said, I am going to find giving up Leather shoes the hardest, but the other issues I think I am going to find easier. Couldn't believe the stats that the leather industry accounts for something like 70 percent of the deaths of cows!!! Shocking.

Have you watched Joaquin Phoenixs documentary on animal rights Earthlings? It is a shocking but totally true account of how they are really treated. I could only watch the preview and I had to go throw up. But I wonder if everyone saw this movie whether there would be a lot more of us going vegan?

Nice to have a like-minded person like you to discuss this subject with.

Another thing you can do if you decide to, is to only buy products with no animal products in them. Vegan products shown on the http://www.choosecrueltyfree.org.au/
site above in purple on their list.
