I'm beginning a degree course in Bahavioural Science this year and recently looked at the textbooks required for the 1st semester. To buy them new it is going to cost me over $250!!!!!!!!! Does anyone out there have any 2nd hand psychology and sociology books they no longer need or know where I might be able to get these items a bit cheaper.

Haven't been there myself as no-one currently studying, but I' m curious whether any text books are downloadable in the same way as novels/non-fiction are these days. Anyone out there know?

I suppose you could find out when each course finishes and buy directly for a good price of course to the students that have just finished the course as long as same course your doing doesn't obsolete previous books. Does that make sense.!

Hope you are successful in your search for your books. Books are so expensive.
Apparently some books can be accessed via the internet on an USA site and even when paying postage are cheaper than here. A lot of students keep their text books to refer back to/

There is an online bookseller called Better World Books who resell donated books and give the money to charities. They are in the US so I don't know how relevent the text books would be here but they do specialise in text books and it costs nothing to look :)

Use textbookexchange.com - this was a brilliant place for me when I was doing my degrees - they sell second hand textbooks at hugely discounted prices! Also, ask your lecturer if you need the current edition of the textbook - if they say no, getting the edition before the current edition will be much cheaper!

I'm doing diploma of comm services then prob behavioural sciences in 3 years so I'll buy the then third hand books off you!! I know what you mean just for diploma some are between 250-350+ luckily the staff are very much about getting the graduates to sell their books to the newbies. I'd check to see if the uni has a second hand book store. Go to the student support office and ask them about them there or put a notice on one of the bulletin boards around campus . Hopefully that helps

Hi Trix56, if you are situated near the university, you can often find second hand textbooks on the notice board of the relevant faculty.Be quick, as they don't last long! From September onwards they are usually posted for the next year. Good luck. -Simla.

Hi there, I did a course years ago (long before the internet) and remember spending over $1,000 on text books and course materials. Ouch! It does hurt! Last year I managed to source a text book for a nephew for about a third of the Australian shelf price. It was through an Australian site, but the book itself came from America, and very promptly. Try Booktopia or Fishpond. They often list rather obscure books that you wouldn't think a popular site would carry. Good luck!
