My mother is 87 and she raised us on greasy foods and lots of salt. She is very healthy. Supposedly healthy foods arent always healthy , What do you think?

I think if some one is meant to die at a certain point of time he /she will die,,,,,no matter if he smokes or not smoke, alcoholic or non alcoholic,,,,,eat healthy or not,,,it does not matter at all,,if you are meant to die you will but if not you will live,,,the problem is we will never get to know our time to go

Thats true , I met a woman a week ago 90 years old still smoking. I guess life is truly what you make, every day is precious. I believe a short time happy , is better then a life of misery. dont...

yes i agree,,,its a matter of enjoying life to the fullest,,,,be positive and face any situation,,,,but in life everything ends with sadness,,,no matter how happy we are..that is coz of attachments we have to our close once and the world,,,if there were no attachments we will not feel sad,,,,,but it is difficult to live witho out attachments...

Hi Kaz
Your mother being 87 probably means she ate lots of non processed foods growing up.
the nearer to natural the food is the better for you,the fat they used in cooking was usally animal fat and rendered down for use.
We have ruined our food by adding preservatives and additives to prolong the shelf life

Yes she was brought up on a farm. Food was sometimes fatty , eg fresh milk with the cream on top. A lot of the old cooking skills have gone. even as a child I seemed to have more vegies. Thank...

All the elders in my family lived till a ripe old age and they put it down to good food not matter what it was cooked in.
And yes I agree with you, lamb is becoming a thing of the past, even the parts they used to sell cheap for dog bones is expensive now because its become popular eg. shanks

Thank God prices have gone done on fruit and vegies.{ I do grow a lot also). But even though meat wasnt as lean as you can get it now, it was a hell of a lot cheaper. Sometimes i think L amb roasts are becoming a thing of the past to some families. I still love roast lamb with mint sauce. Unprocessed foods are definately a lot better.

Your mother is one of the very few heathy people who eat foods like this.

Most would be likely contenders of heart attacks and very obese. Not a good recommendation for a healthy and active long life.

My mum has a network of brothers and sisters that love her and keep an eye on her. Sheis now living in a retirement home. Not locked away and she can come and go as she pleases. I think with family outings as well as outings and activities where she is, her social life is ten times busier then mine. She is very happy. I feel sorry for a lot of the elderly that are alone.

Buffy I dont actually eat like my mother. I hate lots of salt and grease, but I do love the occassional chocolate or sweet. I sometimes think its just luck of the draw for some people. I know of...

I love chocolate too and therefore try to avoid the temptation...if I can, as I don't stop at one!

Look after your mum. They're precious gems and we don't have them forever. Just wish my parents were still alive.

She's reached a good age and she's truly blessed to have done so!

Have a wonderful day.
