After using a common highly recommended vitamin for over 50's women, I became extremely ill, there was suggestion by the medical professionals who assisted me, that I had had a dangerous reaction to black cohash. I wondered if anyone else on here has had a dangerous reaction to black cohash, as I would like to purchase an over 50's vitamin for women, but am very nervous about it in light of what happened to me previously. Do people really believe that the body absorbs the nutrients in vitamins, or am I taking unnecessary risks for nothing!

I believe that some extra nutrients/vitamins/minerals are needed at times for our systems to remain healthy, BUT I personally would not try anything until I have discussed its real need and possible benefit with my own personal physician

We all lead busy and hectic lifestyles and often our bodies need a good multivitamin. I think you need to be really careful to choose one that just includes vitamins and minerals and does not include herbs and other "natural" products. Vitamin companies seem compelled to include every exotic flower, root and herb you can think off but they forget that for certain individuals these ingredients can lead to severe allergic reactions. My advice is to keep it simple. Choose a product that gives you what you want a multivitamin and nothing else.

I would highly recommend seeing a qualified Practitioner e.g. Naturopath or Nutritionist to make sure you recieve a high quality supplement. Nutrients are very well absorbed if taken in the correct form and if digestive function is good. A Practitioner trained in Nutritional medicine will help you assess what is the right supplement for you.

I dont think you should keep taking something after such reaction. You should have a deep check up to find out what vitamin is missing in your body don't just take it because you have to.Have a deep blood test to find out which vitamin you really need.I know some very good natural one without any side effect if you want to try. Most of the time we need a good diet and by eating the proper food and avoid certain drink can benefit our body.
