Who really needs the NBN? Are your download speeds sufficent for your needs?
Do we really need to spend 40 billion on this white elephant?? Or can the money be better spent oh health and old age care?

I think that the nbn has a place because Australia is such a big country with people in some places that are so isolated that this may be a godsend in an emergency.

I do not know a lot about this but I have heard that some companies are be coming paper less and doctor's are now having to put medical notes on to the computer. The medical world is looking to being able to skype patience from the thier surgery to the patience homes which would be really good for house bound people to do this we need the best internet speed we can get at the best price we can have.Business is now 24 hours a day7days a week and those that can't down load or send information at a speed the rest of the world have do well those that can't due to copper wire do very badly and can go out of business.

What we NEED isn't gonna be what we want or get! But total reassessment of the status quot to overhaul Australian Telecommunications is in order at a fraction of the currently proposed budgets. We should have a world class system and we should have it at a world class price instead of an 'outta this world' price. Being frugal with MY money merely demonstrates how much of a folly others endeavour to rake us mercilessly! Taxes, tolls, service fees, insurances & actuaries fail to convince me that there is anything more than malignant mismanagement, dysfunction & above all, corruption in calculating costs for substandard services! Where ever the money goes, it's never to the right places in the right amounts!

I am totally FOR the new NBN. Although I would add that it seems a bit strange that we had to give Tessie Telstra so much money for them to come on board with it? Their copper network is so 1800 ad should have been updated to fibre years ago.
The only thing I'm worried about now is the increased cost that will be involved for the everyday user of the net :(
well I am not prepared to spend 40 mill on your needs
you're not
- you're spending less than $2

Well say-wot: What is up your ass:
Type of person argued against the Harbour Bridge,a shill for libs,a mouthpiece for the Telcos ???????
If you cannot hold a discussion without pouring out forth verbal diarrhea then your arguement is on the same level! I'll return the complement at your level.
If you need faster speeds to download porn movies , well I am not prepared to spend 40 mill on your needs! With labor in charge of the NBN why would I expect them to run it any better than anything else they have attempted.
Pandering to the miniority is what the greens/labor do best , hence gay marriage, ILLEGAL boat people, Wilke with his poker machine crap, plain cig packaging, higher prices on grog, they are the champions of miniorities and stuff the majority of Australians. You are a what? green/ labor shill with shares in the NBN or just a poor misguided fool.!!
say_wot
Pandering to the minority is an ill-educated and short-sighted statement. You are the type of person who would have argued against the construction of the Sydney harbour Bridge because we already have a perfectly good ferry service or would have claimed that the Snowy Mountains hydro-electric scheme was an expensive waste of tax payers money.
I can say categorically that my download speeds are inadequate, but I run a business that would benefit from video conferencing over a fast internet connection. Have you thought about the cost savings to the medical industry using the NBN or are you merely being a mouthpiece for either the Telcos (who claim that one day wireless broadband will be as fast as the NBN, when today it is often slower than dial-up internet) or you're a shill for the technically challenged Liberal Party who will never see that the future of an developed economy is built on the technological decisions we make today.
Bring on the NBN, the quicker the better, the price to consumers will only go down until then keep paying Telstra to rent the copper line you have already paid for many times over

I agree. The news today of the emergency operation supported through video conferencing in WA gives evidence of how valuable the NBN is going to be. Isolated people will get such fast help with medical problems and emergencies.Regional areas will really benefit from the speed and the access. They are very good at using school of the air and open access etc so they will really take advantage of the NBN. It can't come soon enough.

For Goodness Sake !! I'm so tired of hear these types of arguments about money could be spent on better things, etc., etc., - give it a rest !! The NBN is going to be a huge boost to schools for education needs, for medical people, for a vast range of people and uses. This major upgrade to our telephone and internet systems is LONG OVERDUE!! As I said in a previous post, the telstra network is so outdated with it's copper network, not to mention some of the other equipment they are currently using, The copper cabling in the ground from this existing network is probably worth about the same as the money you say the government is wasting!! Get over it, and get on with I say, bring on the new NBN as soon as possible!!. Oh, and no I'm not worried about downloading movies and the like's, more like I might be able to have a skype conversation with far better clarity and with no dropping out etc. Of course we are all entitled to our opinion, and for what it's worth, that's mine.

Well spending 40 odd billion so people can download movies is to me a waste. Could be better spent on many other things. julia is pandering to the moniority again. Yes you can bet we ALL will be paying more for something we do not need again.
Gerry1945
We still do not have enough bandwidth/speed to watch movies online so we do need faster speeds. There are many countries much better than ours with technology. Also at 1/2 the price we pay.
Lela
I agree with Gerry. We pay SO much for "Our great internet " and so many times its slow. But why do we have to spend so much? and is it really going to speed up things for us? Buy that movie and be able to work online faster!
anne
YES THE MONEY COULD BE SPENT ON OLD AGE AND HEALTH
hotprincess08
most certainly agree with anne thats where the money should be spent on old age and health
