Home brand vs named brand

Are there brands that you used to buy that are no longer in your local supermarket? What do you think of all these 'home brands'? Are they just as good as the named brands, are they cheaper, or are you still hankering after something in particular that just seems to have disappeared from the shelves? Give us your opinion.

slutguts says: As a student my first reaction is to pick the cheapest one of everything. A lot of the time, I can't tell the difference between the home brand and the named brand. But sometimes I can, like with chocolate for eating, I wouldn't buy the select brand I'd choose lindt or Cadbury. I also thing there's a social stigma against buying home brand items. If I'm having friends over I will buy chips and soft drink that are named brands because other people have preferences, even if I can't taste the difference.
