Are there brands that you used to buy that are no longer in your local supermarket? What do you think of all these 'home brands'? Are they just as good as the named brands, are they cheaper, or are you still hankering after something in particular that just seems to have disappeared from the shelves? Give us your opinion.

The true issue here is whether you choose to: 1) buy a branded (hopefully Australian) product and support an independent, sometimes family-owned company/business producing something of value to people; or 2) buy a home/supermarket branded product which is the result of the huge supermarket conglomerate screwing down profitability for the manufacturer/producer in favour of higher profit margin for the supermarket chain.
I know most people are primarily concerned with their own outlay and don't consider the wider ramifications. However, there are much greater issues at stake behind your saving of a few cents when you choose to buy a supermarket branded product.
In the end, when there are no independent brands left and your only choice is supermarket-branded product, we'll all be paying more. The only winners are the Woolworths/Coles/Costco/Walmarts of the world. Your short term "gain" will inevitably become a long term loss for us all.
