Hotel Safety In Pokie Venues

Like many other people, I enjoy having a flutter at times at the local hotels. On one occasion I was in a hotel when there was an attempted robbery. Many people find a visit to the hotel helps with feelings of isolation. Pokie venues are very vulnerable, I always leave at a reasonable time, and have little cash on me, despite this, on the one occasion I was present at a hotel during a robbery, this happened on a week day when very few patrons were present. I feel people should have the right to visit a venue in safety, and I realize police are doing their best, I wonder if there is anything else that can be done to protect the safety of innocent patrons. I wonder if other patrons, such as myself, fear for their safety of late.

My opinion to this is that you only hear of the bad and not so much of the good. I have been to hotels with partners and have had a great time. The memories are ones that I hold close and for this reason I will return to a hotel and do it again. I think it is unfortunate that anyone could be held up in a robbery when they have spent money for the stay but I dont think they I would fear for my safety because of somebody elses experiences. You could be held up in a robbery in many areas you just have to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I to have felt so very unsafe on leaving some of the local venues that have poker machines or even TAB's in neighbourhood, especially if I have had a small win or especially when I have won a great deal of money. I have found when turing around to find one of the attendants, I see there is a group of people standing there watching me cash in my winning tickets or even calling an attendant over to write out my win. I have quite often had a Security Gaurd escort me to my car, in the parking lot. What is even more surprising is to see a car following me home. When than occurs I have go to the Police Station Station & hand my cheque over to them to hold until the next day when I can then deposit it safely into the bank. Why is this happening in today's society?? We should be safe when we go out, no matter where it is we are going!!!

You do have a right to visit a venue in safety and the owners have a duty of care to ensure that you are kept safe. Get onto your local politicians and stress this. Also talk to the manager who runs the venue about this.

The only thing that can be done is to have tougher laws against criminals. Criminals just have it too easy and prisons are turning into Five star hotels for them. Unfortunately you can’t take matters into your own hands cause then you are the one in trouble. If you ask the police what to do, they will tell you to obey the robber and give them what they want and if you are lucky they will catch the robber and put him into a five star prison where he will be fed and have access to a gym where he will keep fit to rob again and all that at the expenses of your hard earned tax money. As far as tougher laws are concerned we can forget about it cause then you will have human rights activists up in arms to fight for the human rights of criminals........
