Hi Limpy (doug f), I had a hip replacement in June. Prior to the replacement I got so bad I could not walk. My left hip was 10mm shorter than the right one as both the joint and socket had worn down and were smooth instead of curved. I also had cysts growing in the acetabulum which required bone grafts. There was also a spur growing out the side of the hip which restricted my movement. I have not been able to put shoes and socks on without helper aids for some years now. The new hip is wonderful. Unfortunately, the other hip will need an operation some time in the future.

Fortunately, I have very little pain in the hips. However, my back causes me lots of problems and unfortunately the specialist cannot do anything for that. I have trouble getting comfortable at night. I too have osteoarthritis but fortunately not osteoporosis.

It sounds to me that you have osteoporosis (thinning of the bone) if your hip has collapsed. One of the people attending our hydrotherapy class has had 5 hip replacements in the last 4 years but she has osteoporosis.

Also, one replacement was because of the faulty hip replacement joints (bad batch from USA) and had to be removed and replaced.

I take Rose Hip capsules, vitamin D and Fish Oil liquid. The Rose Hip capsules seem to work for the pain as when I stop taking them I get very bad pain - mainly in the back.

Fortunately, I am still able to drive without any problems (but have trouble getting into the car), work in my garden (but need something to help me get down onto the ground and up again - kneeling pad with wings) and walk distances (with the help of a walking stick). I am unable to stand for any length of time but am alright as long as I am walking. I think I am very fortunate as apart from this I am healthy.

Answer to your question about pain - no I do not have any pain in the operated hip. In fact I can now walk up stairs and touch my toes on that side. Hydrotherapy is a great help with mobility issues.

Hi there Doug,
I had a total left hip operation a few years ago and am now almost completely pain free apart from the occasional sciatic nerve problem. Have you spoken with your docotr about this? It could be sciatica rather than the hop operation that is the problem.

Approx 25 years ago my consultant physician introduced me to an organisation called Sukyo Mahikari, where practitioners offer free, energy purification which not only relieved my chronic pain, but gave me an overall feeling of well being. These centres are in all states. Each session takes 50 minutes, and you can visit as often as you want. I was advised to receive the purification ten times in order to evaluate the benefits. Elcee

I had a hip replacement but copped a dose of Golden Staph with it. After numerous 'washouts' to clear it another surgeon was brought in to remove the prosthesis to assist the infection diseases doctors getting rid of the staph.
After 4 months without a hip (only a spacer in it's place) a new hip was fitted with cardiac and psychological issues during the procedure.
I'm left with a lot of destroyed muscle and mental issues along with depression. My lower back has now gone in sympathy with my hip and both give me tremendous pain.
I use Norspan 20 patch with Panadeine Forte for breakthrough pain, neither rid me of pain. Sleep is my only escape.

I'm trying to not have hip-replacement, so have started taking "Natural Joint" (available online, from USA), and doing the exercises recommended in "3 Minutes to a Pain-Free Life: The Groundbreaking Program for Total Body Pain Prevention and Rapid Relief" by Dr Joseph Weisberg. This book puts much of the problems with hips (and other joints) on our habit of sitting, to quote him "the chair is the seat of all evil". Since doing the exercises (takes 3 minutes) every day (and I'm not able to do all of them to their full extent, yet) I've noticed a marked difference in the amount of pain I feel. It's an ongoing, life-time thing, and never too late (or too early, for that matter) to start.

thanks so munch for your insite to yours & mine hip problems unfortuanally mine runs in the family /// my mother died just after having a hip done & my brother is simalar to your self where he...

It's certainly good to have prevention, rather than cure. The body has marvellous recuperate powers, if we give it a chance - it'll heal a broken bone, we only go to the doctor to ensure it heals the right way - and I'm all for doing all that I can to help that inner healing power. Genes are part of the story, but what we think, do, eat, say is the rest of the story.

I think you need to be taking very high quality supplements to strengthen bones and tissues and to build immunity so that inflamation doesn't badly affect the surgery areas. see: www.unitoday.net/lavauney

I have many clients in similar situations to your Doug and they have found that Remedial Massage is the one thing that helps them as after I treat them I send them to the beach to walk in the water for 309 minutes and so many now live drug free. Its got to be worth a try

Hi Doug! Sorry to hear of your health issues. My Wife and I have been in the health and well-being industry for over five (5) years now learning about nutrition. Unfortunately, this is an area which doctors know little about, nor do much study on hence, why they go down the medication path. Trouble is, these drugs are riddled with toxins, poisons and chemicals and do nothing to assist or help in the maintenance or improvement of general well-being, let alone improve your immune system. My philospohy is prevention is better than cure. To answer your question, I use products from USANA HEALTH SCIENCES. Procosamine II assists tissue repair in cartilage and other joint structures and Active Calcium Plus assists in reducing the occurrence of leg cramps. Developed by Dr. Myron Wentz, (http://media.usana.com/drwentz/index.shtml) an internationally recognised microbiologist, immunologist and pioneer in the development of human cell culture technology, these are the highest rated, science-based, nutritional supplement products in the world. They work!
If you need more information, please feel free to email me at zheng@usana.com.
Best of health!

Sounds like you've had rough trot. My elderly aunt of 90 has only had one hip replacement but it keeps on popping out and is in a lot of pain too. I am due for a knee replacement and hope I only have it done once not like you having the same op 4 times. Also I have osteoarthritis in both hips plus fibromyalgia and I am always in some kind of pain. So, I try to take my mind off it by doing craft work, reading, listening to music or do gentle exercise.I take medication at night to help with the pain and to sleep. Gentle water therapy is helpful too. Try alternative therapies or hypnotism. Good luck in managing your pain relief.

Hi Shayne! Thank you for your information on pain relief. I have never heard of USANA HEALTH SCIENCES but will read the link you recommended. I use pain relief medication, glucosamine...

Hi Calamity! No problem regarding the information. USANA products are available in 14 countries, inc. Australia. If you're in Melbourne, I can drop any of the product range off to you free of charge, as I am a licensed distributor. If you are in another state however, you'll have to make a small donation to Australia Post to cover Postage & Handling costs. USANA appeared on Today Tonight as the highest rate nutritional supplement in Australia & N.Z. (Google USANA Today Tonight) My thoughts are prevention is far better than organ replacement, hospital or medical costs or surgery. Preferred Customer price for Procosamine is $1.60 per day. Far less than a cup fo coffee...
May I ask what brand of supplements you're using?
In relation to your Husband, have you heard of the documentary The Gerson Miracle? As a matter of interest, does you Fish Oil brand guarantee not to contain any traces of Mercury?
If you'd prefer to email me, please email me at zheng@usana.com
Kind regards
Shayne

Hi Shayne! Thank you for your information on pain relief. I have never heard of USANA HEALTH SCIENCES but will read the link you recommended. I use pain relief medication, glucosamine chondroitin, fish oil capsules and magnesium. Is Procosamine only available in USA, as I live in Australia. I will not be able to purchase it if it is too expensive, as I am on a tight budget as my husband has a life threatening disease and his medication costs are expensive.

Hi Calamity! You may read my post to Doug, but just in case you don't I'm replying directly to you. I'm sorry to hear of your health issues also. My philospohy is disease prevention is far better than cure. I use products from USANA HEALTH SCIENCES. Procosamine II may provide you with temporary relief of the pain of osteoarthritis. It also helps promote normal, healthy joints. In relation to your fibromyalgia, may I suggest you read the following link as Dr. Ray Strand's Wife suffered for 18 years until she found (and started using) USANA HEALTH SCIENCES products.
