shortly after installing power hungry air conditioners (grrr - bad advice!!!) i discovered a new aircon invention on the internet - a system which converts the hottest solar energy into cool air!!! how clever is that?!
the moral of the story? DO YOUR RESEARCH!!!

I jumped on the solar panel ship a couple of years ago and it's been great so far. However here in NSW the Govt. is gradually decreasing the rebates etc and in 2016 they will cut everything out so it will be up to the electricity companies to decide how much they'll pay us for what we generate. If you live in NSW do your research before committing!

The problem i see with solar is just like everything else the government want their cut so they will change policies and invent new taxs to get it, Dont get me wrong though solar is the way to go for the future. A complete standalone system works best from I've been hearing and not be connected to grid at all, with todays technology and a bit of work i think most household's could be relatively self suffiecent

Drives me crazy that the govt wont get on board with solar and will tax it to the max. Then again solar makes so much sense stands to reason it would go over top of their heads.

google 'solar air conditioning' - that's what i did. just kicking myself it didn't occur to me sooner.

hHi Hillicent, great advice. I'm going to take your advice and also tell a number of friends who will be interested in researching this so important subject.
Google is sure a great research tool, even for us who are just starting to learn how!

I hope by the time I have saved money for solar panels it will be even cheaper to purchase. Self suficient is the way to go.

with solar they will always find something new

to reduce electricity bills battery solar from home and send the excess back to the electricity company and wow you save heaps
as well you can recharge the newer cars when releasedto australia at home by solar as this they claim is the fuel source of the centuary
if you want to beat the bills run solar and run it back into the grid and enjoy the free showers
happy solar powering

I agree that solar is the way to go. We have the perfect climate for it.

I also agree solar and renewable energy such as wind power are the future of power.

Yes but the cars that run it are not big enough with a family. The boot is so small you would need to make extra shopping trips. Many small cars aren't wide enough to have 2 baby/booster seats in the back and another passenger if necessary.
Friends of ours bought a bigger car for that reason. It was either that or run 2 cars most of the time. Not practical when you take into account Vehicle Registration, Compulsory Third Party Insurance (covers human injury only), Stamp Duty (unless you are a pensioner) all those are in one bill. Also Comprehenisve Car Insurance or Third Party Property Insurance in case you damage somebody's car, Vehicle Servicing, new tyres etc., for 2 small or 2 small medium size cars cars instead of one larger medium size car.(e.g. Commodore or Falcon Sedan) With 3 children especially if 2 or all of them are in compulsory you need the extra width. In some of the Commodores you can fit 2 booster and 1 baby seat in but they are literally "touching" I personally know this is the case in more than one family car.

Thanks for the advice unfortunately it is too late for us! Last year we did the solar panel thing for hot water, but during summer we rev up the 'beast' to keep comfortable. A slight irony I fear!

At the moment we are getting rebates for the solar panels so its affordable foe even the poor, what about ten ot 15 years from now when it comes to replace the panels, only the rich will be able to afford it,MY guess is , there will be a lot of dead solar panels on the roofs- hey
