Suggestions / opinions pls as to what would be a good brand/phone to purchase. Main criteria to consider would be qwerty, good battery life, durability, easy to sms, and good or reasonable photos. Your suggestions will be appreciated

If you don't have a price range I think that an iphone 4S definitly ticks all of those boxes comfortably

Wonderful to have our children with mobiles, but oh don't we as their parents need to make sure they don't have a phone that is going to connect them to sites such as FB and music downloads, utube etc. that we have no control over. At 15 your child will be vunerable to people etc.( and encouraged by peers) that you may not want her/him exposed to. You hear so much about the trouble some young people get into because of the social net working. I would certainly get the phone, but maybe not necessarily the "top of the line" smart phone. Another thing to consider is ofcourse the cost of the calls - downloading music etc. chews up an amazing amount of the "credit MBs" that come with the phone plan and once that has been used up, the cost can be very high. Some poor man ended up with a $27,000.00 yes $27,000.00 bill because his son was "watching" the cricket on his dad's phone!

I got a Nokia as my first phone, it was sturdy and durable.
The latest ones are durable as well as having a camera and a music player incorporated in it.
Anything that is a touch screen won't have a brilliant battery in it as it uses a lot of energy.

well ive got a samsung galaxy 5 at the moment they r $150 and r really good. ive had it 4 nearlly a year now and ive dropped it like 100 times and it still works perfectly. Its really loud and has a lot of new features like most smart phones. i kno iphones and htcs r probably better but their pretty weak and cost 3 times as much so id say galaxy 5

My 15 year old son has a HTC Desire and it does everything he wants it to do. He would have preferred the IPhone 4 but beggars can't be choosers. Either of these phones would be good for your 15 yr old.

To everyone who answered my query in December/early Jan. I would like to say thank you. All of your opinions gave me something to follow up and think about and work out what would suit best. Thanks to you all for your suggestions.

I would get your daughter to investigate and research all the mobile phones that would meet the criteria and price range. Then he/she can explain it to you. I'm sure he/she would understand better than you and might also appreciate the costs involved as well.

thanks for your advice glenny, problem has been solved some time ago ... - a little too late for your advice though. No kinding, of course the kids know more ..... don't you think i've already taken that and their opinions into consideration. I was only putting the question out there in the hope of gaining a better solution than what you have provided me.

I love my iPhone 4 but I've heard the samsung galaxy is basically the same and just as good. I always go on a plan. You get more credit than what you pay for and if your son/daughter is stuck in a dangerous situation, they will never have the added disadvantage of having no credit.

I guess it is too late for a X-mas present. I was letting you know there is a discount on cellphones at most stores. After X-mas sale going on Happy holidays hope you find the cellphone your daughter wants.

Thanks tor your suggestions. Stiill confused as to what to purchase. What would be better - to buy a phone outright and purchase prepaid or 0 upfront and pay an agreed amount per month. The best deal., i think unsure, is virgin offering a smart cap @ $29 per month for the samsung wave for 24 month and then we own the phone and can go to whoever for our supplier. My other option is to buy a cheaper phone ie Noloea E63 at a discounted price of $135 and take up a sim-only cap price of $10 per month (which includes $100 talk, test, data 100 texts or 100MB data) so getting confused with all of this as i am not mobile phone privvy. Plsss can anyone help and advise? All the best to everyone, hope you have a great xmas and a better2011

Yea I agreed with DCIMM, Iphone 4 is a great gadget. I believed your 15yrs son/daughter will be more than happy to receive this gadget for the Xmas especially it was reported the ratio of iphone users in Australia is higher than in US. Imagine how happy will be your son/daughter to be part oft the iphone users.

All the requirements required by you above can be provided by iphone 4.

I hope it help you to consider iphone 4 as a gift for your son/daughter... :)

An iphone 4 to a 15 yr old. Hell No. Kids are getting mugged on trains for their iphones. They are not durable and many who've dropped them once have ended up with a $200 repair bill. What about the ongoing costs to use it. It is not a gift if there are expensive ongoing costs to use them.Is a 15 yr old going to pay for the cost of using an iphone?? Anyway who would spend almost $900 for an outright purchase of an unlocked iphon4 or a minimum of $50 or more on a two year contract for a 15yr for one. One hellishly expensive present.

Apple iPhone4 would be a good gift eitherwise, a google phone such as HTC Desire. But if you get your kid this phone dont think they will ever get off it.

considering apple iphone 5 just came out that would be a better present. but i myself use htc one xl which in my opinion is far superior than iphone. and any kid would love it , every kid has a phone these days so them playing on it and communicating with it 24/7 is actually a normal thing these days lol
