I enjoy Zumba and used to go regularly at the gym but the times don't fit in at the moment however I always participate when we are on a cruise.

Zumba is the best! However, my fave teacher left and the new ones are just not the same. You need a funky teacher...

I am thinking about it as at 51 the weight piles on even through I walk about 6 - 8 kilometres a week. Have you found that Zumba classes help you lose weight and get fitter ?
I saw on the television a 91 year old woman doing the Zumba class so if she can do it I can.

I wasn't impressed with Zumba at first. I'm someone who prefers exercising on their own or doing hot yoga if I take any sort of classes.
But once we got a new instruction, Zumba is a lot more fun. You need someone who challenges you and switches up the routines to keep it fresh. Otherwise it gets so stale, boring and you'll feel like it's wasting your money.
Make sure you have a great energetic instruction, makes all the difference

Hi Lise
I became a Zumba instructor just over a year ago. I teach 2 classes a night in Richmond, Nelson, at a local school hall. My sister-in-law comes to every class, it's the highlight of her week. What is interesting is that she has MS and since doing Zumba her energy and mobility has increased considerably. People would not realise that she has had MS for over 10 years and has been barely able to walk at times prior to doing Zumba. She is an inspiration! Zumba won't be just a phase for me, I'll have to keep teaching until I'm an old lady I think. :)

Would be easier if they had better teachers that slowed down and taught you

I really want the dvds but don't have the money. I went to classes at church a couple of times, but I don't have a road legal car and no lift now so had to stop. It was so much fun, and exhausting! lol. I still think you would need to do some strength training on top of ZUMBA though.

Hi all,
just read all your posts about zumba. I have caught the zumba bug too and I love it. I bought the dvds and I do it at home every morning. When I started I did'nt think I would be able to do it but now I definately get into it with heaps of enthusiasm. I can never stay on my fitness regimes for long but with zumba, I miss it if I have a day off . It is so much fun. If anyone is hesitant about doing it at a class, I really recommend using the dvds. You can start slow and work your way up and no one will see you!

I LOVE ZUMBA!!! Truly, I've never found any exercise except walking that I can stick with, but I've been going to Zumba classes at a local dance company for 3 months now, which is fantastic! I come home energised and find myself looking forward to it, which is unheard of for me.
Fortunately the instructor is a qualified latin dance instructor and makes it so much fun and varied.
I go with a couple of close friends and we use it as a chance to catch up and have some fun.

I started Zumba classes a few months ago at my gym. I already attend about 10 aerobics classes a week and when I tried Zumba I loved it too! It is great for any age or fitness level (I am a typical chubby 60 yr old female) so if you like to dance you'll love this. I have now added 2 Zumba classes to my weekly workout and enjoying every minute.

Groan :(
Seems like our little group of Zumba has fallen by the wayside ...seems that everyo one of us that were doing it at our homes in a groupl has better things to do?
Feels abit strange doing it by myself now, so I better get some extra money aside and join the classe4s here I think. Damn !! Oh well, I guess it was fun at the time...

I have well & truly caught Zumba fever!!
Started 8 months ago at a dance club, but then my gym started classes I can do included in m'ship, was so excited!
Our instructor is Chilean & is so amazing & fun, makes all the difference. It is the most fun I've ever had working out & I've never lost weight & toned up so quickly before.
I have just signed myself up to do the Zumba instructor course and can't wait!
I hope it's a fad that's here to stay.

Yes, loving the Zumba - try to do it every day. Classes 3 times a week and use the DVD's for the other days. Totally addicted, have a class tomorrow night and can't wait! I have been going since August and have noticed a difference in my fitness levels and flexibility.
Our instructor is a hoot.

Hiya happytreasure,

That sounds like you have found yourself a great instructer, which can make all the difference.
I also notice that before you know it, your hour class is over. Compared to doing an hour on my electric treadmill!

Thanks for your input.

Not into Zumba but into street latin dancing instead. What is zumba anyway but street latin without a partner. street latin just as good as Zumba for exercise but you get to dance with someone.

I started a few months ago :-)
I was looking around for something after my belly dance teacher had to go back to full time work due to a lack of other students. I had seen the ads for it on the TV a few times but didn't really think much of it until after I started taking my child to swim lessons at a local fitness center, I was initially looking for something along the lines of yoga or pilates but they weren't on at a suitable time for me so I thought I'd give it a try... now I'm hooked!

Hiya melinda,

Thanks for your input :)

It seems to have that effect on you hey, once you go and try it, it certainly does get you hooked.

My class last night the instructer was saying that, she has been blown away by the demand, as this is the first class in Adelaide that has been going a full year in December! she was saying it has turned her life upside down, as the demand is growing, like I said before, the amount of new people every week, just grows and grows.

I go on my own, so anyone thinking..oh I dont have anyone to go with, well I went along, and everyone is SO friendly, and you get to see the same people every week, meet new people.............All positive, and get fit at same time :)

Have a nice day!
Cheers,
Lise:)

Hey Paul,

I find if I have a clean out, I'm like, oh might keep that, and so on, so most of it goes back!

I did actually have a clean out couple months ago, in a 2 bedroom place me.
Even then the anount of stuff that I threw out, was umm errr where has all this come from!

Glad you're ok with the move, my reply was probably like " oh gawd, moving not knowing where too" .......anyone would think it was me moving, sorry if I was pessimistic in my reply, that's my other name! lol

10 years is a long time to be in one place, I have been in mine for 16 years, and I wouldnt like to have to move, and on top on that, the added anxitey of not knowing where you're going would be a nitemare.

I'm not back into the zumba yet, if ever...as things change and just suffering from a lack of energy lately, so I'm hoping it's nothing to do with all the mozzie bites I've had :( so blood test coming up...sigh.

I hope all goes well with your moving, and hope you will be happy and settled soon :)

Hiya Proteus,

I'm sorry to hear that, and people have no right to assume what your earnings are, but this seems to be the norm these days.

I have not been to a class since just before christmas, as the lady running the class? was taking too many people as they walked in, and it got the stage where, you could not move, with both arms out, I was bumping into the others.
It was a total shambles and a total nightmare!

Seems money is prefered rather than only so many per class, people just kept coming in.
So I am not going back there, also It's at night, and a few things have changed around here, and I dont want to be coming home in the dark.

So Proteus, I too am on disability pension, so I have decided to buy the Zumba kit, I will get it from Rebel Sports, as if you have a RAA card, you get 10% discount, and as you know, it all helps. Then that way I can do the workout at home in peace, in the mornings, which I think personally is better to workout at the start of day, rather than the end.
So thats my plan :)

I hope you maybe at a later stage, get back into it, maybe someone you know might chip in and you can buy it too.

All the best, keep in touch.
Thinking of ya :)

Little by little, our small groupl dropped away, for various reasons, mainly family ones I guess, so we havne't been ati ti for a few weeks now. I again looked at joing one of the classes here in my hometown, but again found it was way too expensvie for me - it seems that my particular mining town home ahs the philosophy of "you earn good money, you will pay top price for everything"
Alas and alack, I do not ear the money they say everyone does here, aka disability pension, so oh well...it was fun while we were all able to do it.

Oh that's disappointing to read Proteus about the instructer, as I was reading it, I was thinking gawd, that's one extrreme to the other!!!
Full on relaxation yoga, to Full on flat out Zumba lol never stop moving!
and ashame about the Bright Lite room, I was lucky I guess the lady whio runs the class I go to, it's in a school hall, so she puts up the disco lights, as I was well pleased when I got there and found that, so to the back of the hall I headed!
no, seriously I did, and that helped me get into it slowly, as I looked at the date when I posted this topic, so it's almost been 2 months.....
The hour lesson flies by, she charges $10 & $8 concession, so I feel that's reasonable for me.

I was pleased to read tonight's the night, well done you!
I'm sure your girlsfriends will love it.

I look forward to reading all about it,
Wishing you all a great night of fun

I actually went to watch one of the classes last nght, was a hoot ...but I kinda was dissapointed that the person doing it here in my hometown didn't have any imagination for the classes - as in teh studio was very brightly lit, the instructor was kinda errrmmm ummm well she was like a yoga insturctor a bit I guess?? Anyway, it still looks fun. Point is ...a couple of friends of mine have also decided to do ZUMBA so we are doing it at my house and dare I say it ...with a bit of a twist..LOL Sssshhhhh don't tell anyone, but we starting tonight with the first cd, have cleared out the living room and am looking forward to it.
Oh, the reson we are dong it at home ...it was way too expensive for classes here, so being on a strict budget ..we doing our own thing.

Hiya Proteus,

I thought about buying the dvd's, but as I have a electric treadmill, which is now a clothes hoist!!!! I decided to actually go, and they have beginner classes, the instructers are very helpful, and the ladie class I go to, ehr background is in personal training, so thats a bonus.

Good luck, get them dvd's playing and you will catch the bug, and want to go to a class, some have the hall DARK!!! and like disco lights, so it's just a great time, and no one can see ya!!! lol...anyway ya aint got time to look at everyone, there are all ranges in age groups, so dont be put off by your age........I'm not quite over the hill me, but the view's not bad!!!!!! :)

Have a good day, and enjoy!

Yes! I am the last person you would think of that would exercise and enjoy it, but I went to Zumba with a girlfriend a few weeks ago and we are hooked!

I think it is a fad, and just a bit more hip movement on your basic Body Step or Body Pump class, but I love it just the same!

I would reccommend it to anyone also!

Hi ltaylor17,

Thanks for your reply and input, I have been going to classes for over a month now twice a week, and I tend to agree, with some people it's a fad, but at end of day, the people who are going for the right reasons will still be there.
I have notice in just a month, the amount of people now attending has gone through the roof!
But I too love it, I have back and muscel problems, and have found it to be very good for me.

Have a nice day!
