What is RSS?
RSS (Rich Site Summary) is a format for delivering regularly changing web content. Many news-related sites, weblogs and other online publishers syndicate their content as an RSS Feed to whoever wants it.

RSS is a means to subscribe to the content of a website so that you are notified when new content is posted. It's just like subscribing to a newspaper or magazine only RSS is done via websites and internet.

OK, a little old, but rather than being rude I'll try to answer your question.

RSS is Really Simple Syndication. It's a method of distributing lists, usually of links, without the overhead of publishing a website. It's often used by news sites as a means of publishing links to their latest stories without someone having to go to their website to see what's new. If you are using Firefox there are probably a couple of buttons below the address bar with an RSS icon - you'll see they are full of links and the links will change over time.

I sometimes think the standard "Google it" answer is either a sign that the poster doesn't know themselves and / or a sign of immature one-up manship.

Tip: Try to visit websites and check out that yellow icon with RSS that will give a sample of RSS feeds of a website or a blog.
