Why are people who appear on TV, movies and print media celebrated. They are usually presenters, actors and models who do nothing to deserve being celebrated. On the other hand, why don't we recognise the true heroes of our time, eg. scientists, medical profession, emergency services and the police force who spend much of their valuable time finding cures for disease, saving lives and putting their own lives on the line.

You only have to watch Celebrity Aprentice on TV to see how shallow most of them are and Warwick Capper actually thought he was sooooo good.

Welcome to the Paris Hilton Generation!

Where Celebrities are held in higher regard than say the Doctor that helps you with your cancer treatments or the nurse's who work long hard hours and help you with your day to day care.

It's honestly sad, sad we've become this and sad because of how much money those gossip magazines truly make!

i agree, take Paris Hilton, The Kardashians and even Nicole Richie.
What really have they done for the world. other than make headlines for porn films, using Illegal drugs, Prison stints or rehab, And they're FAMOUS for it!
As you say why Aren't the real heroes in the headlines. i'm sure the world would be a better and happier place if they were.

The heroes of the floods in Queensland, especially the helicopter crew who rescued so many from the rooftops and flooded creeks. Also the firefighters in West Australia this week. These are just some who need recognition at the moment.

The absolute & most useless would be sports identities and their WAGs.
I think it is an opportunity for dress, shoe and jewellry designers to get their products seen.
Annoying & irrelevent all round.

99.999% of celebrity news is just absolute crap. I cannot understand why anyone with half a brain would take any notice of it let alone have any interest in it. So Tom Cruise is screwing Julia Gillard or whoever? Who cares?

OMG I am with you there, I hate all the celebrity hype and red carpet stuff its American trash as far as I am concerned, then again you only have to travel through America and understand where it comes from they are a shallow nation and naive when it comes to the rest of the world, just wish Australia didnt copy them, well why doesnt someone start an interlectual awards I think there are internally to the infrastructures themselves like Drs who designed the best prosthetics ect but it would be nice to see the engineers, the charity workers ect ect, shame shame eh

I totally agree with you. Also add all the volunteers who work endless hours for no reward except the satisfaction that they get from knowing they have helped make life easier for someone.

Most need publicity agents just to keep them in the spotlight.

I know a couple of people who were actually paid by agencies to put together a group of people to turn up to make so called celebrities look more popular than they really were. Almost the same as rent-a-crowd in the university days. The non-celebrities are not so visible because they are focussed on their gifts to humanity rather than the celebrities seeking of gifts to their own vanity.

Maybe karma will eventually deal with this inequity of recognition. I have also heard of the "rent-a-crowd" situation. Not too good for ego if the so-called celebs have to pay for adoration.
