Hypnosis is the same as any other form of help that you use for quitting smoking. If you believe in it, it will work.
It is amazing just what hypnosis can do. I watched a program the other night about some women who have lost massive amounts of weight through hypnosis. They were told under hypnosis that they had lap band surgery and were unable to eat the same quantities that they were eating before.
So I think that if you really want to quit smoking or loose weight or anything that you need to change, if you believe that something will work, it will.

Hi Hubbu,
If you are desperate go to your Doctor and ask him about going on the Champix program that is subsidised by the Government. I stopped smoking 2 years ago and I was on about 90 a day and I am 61 and have been smoking since I was about 12. Go into the net and look it up as Champix has numerous side effects but luckily for me I could handle the ones I had. Every person is different but it is worth a try. You continue to smoke for the first couple of weeks that you are on the pills until you set a stop date. The pills you take on a daily basis just cut your intake. I went from 90 a day to 20 in the first day and I had 2 cigs left on my final day and I had one in the morning and one in the afternoon and that was it. Let me know how you go.

Hypnosis from a qualified medical hypnotherapist works extremely well. It is important to choose your service supplier carefully, not just anyone. Can be sourced the rough counselling centres or in webbased databases such as Healthpoint.
I have used hypnotherapy and witnessed it in a variety of health settings.
The key to success with hypnotherapy is that you must have a committed mindset to succeed at what ever it is you are seeking help with. Hypvotherapy cannot help you if you dont really want the help. It should not be seen as a shortcut

I dont know about hypnosis , but as a60 a day man for almost 50 years (now 69) . I do swear by MUZZSTOP it is an acupuncture and herbal combination . I walked into the surgery 4 years ago for the first of two treatments and have had no qualms about walking into any smoke laden area since.,. the desire to light up does no longer exist . 3 years ago i sent my son (also a heavy smoker) to MUZZSTOP for treatment as well. he too no longer has any urge to light up. If you go to www.muzzstop.com.au you will be able to read about the process. By the way i am in noway affiliated with this company at all ,just completely rapt in its success.

I've had hypnosis for other health issues, and it has been very successful. The most important factor is that you actually want the outcome - in this case, quitting smoking - and can imagine yourself in that place. See yourself with clean, healthy lungs; clean air around you in the car, at home, etc and that's what you'll achieve. We get what we focus on, so focus on what you want.

2 people I know tried it. One , on his first time there was told to hand over his cigarette case and lighter which would be a positive sign that he wanted to give up. As these items were gold and the man would have preferred to gift them to someone it sat very negativly with him and his anger at having someone take his belongings from him stopped him being able to complete the hynotherapy.
The second , a girl friend was told if she smoked she'd be ill. So a few weeks later when she had a few beers she lit up a cigarette. Her idea of getting ill and the hyntherapists were very different. She started vomitting violently and shivering . I've know a few people who were hypnotherapists in the past and sometimes they've opened a can of worms and been unable to put the lid back on !! BOTH these people have now given up smoking using champix for one and zyban for the other.

Hi . My brother went to a hypnotist about 2 years ago + he stopped smoking on that day. I stopped smoking approx 10 years ago. It was a case of I couldn't afford to burn $75 per week. I was due for a couple of annual medical appointments + the car was due to be serviced, so I stopped smoking instantly ... simple fact is .. if you don't buy cigarettes, you don't have them to smoke.... good luck...

I tried hypnotherapy, and it worked for me, but it is not for everyone. I seem to be an easy person to hypnotize and I had the motivation to quit, It is certainly an option worth considering if you haven't had much luck with other treatments.
It seems to work on the principle of distracting your subconscious then slipping in a 'suggestion' whilst it is off-guard. It is not a deep trance - you remain conscious and aware of what is going on.

I have never tried it myself but have heard good remarks from friends. I was thinking of trying it for weight loss.
I stopped smoking cold turkey. Sitting at my desk (before smoking was taboo0 and noticing three burning cigarettes in the ash tray.
Just stopped that day and never went back.
Wish it was so easy with food.
If anyone has any ideas I would love to hear.

Hi Proteus,
We are going to do it, and it will happen it's all about will power, but I aint got any, damn I'm week. But we will. 20 a day down to 15 keep it up and you'll become a non smoker one day.

Have been trying to quit the habit for ages now, have done the patches, the wont power, the pills that made me very ill, and have tried to cut down, with moderate success. Have seen adds for the hypnosis, but have never been able to try it as there never seems to be one in my location. My only hypnosis attempt was at a social function, and that was purely for fun, and I have to say I wasn't hynotised?
Maybe I just have to strengthen the wont power?

Hi Proteus
I believe you because I have tried every thing that you have and no nothing. We both need help. How much do you smoke a day? I smoke 15 a day.

LOL - yep the longest I've managed is three weeks, and that was a taks in itself - all them sweets I ate, all the chewing gum etc., and all the glasses of water - almost sickening, chuckles.
Currently I'm on about 20 a day, am down from 30, so that has to be a good start,

I have not used hypnosis personally, but my mum tried it and it seemed to work at first but then she started smoking again, I think it might work
but only if you really want to not smoke. I think it is probably worth the try. I heard zyban is good, my dad and sister used it to quit smoking and have not smoked for years now.

I quit smoking and it was really difficult, I did it by cutting down my cigarettes over time until I was ready. It got to the point I didn't enjoy it any more cause I was angry at myself for doing it. Also when I tried to quit in the past if something stressful came up I would start smoking again, I had to make a decision to feel the pain and smoking only temporarily made me feel better anyway.

I think a good idea would be to list the benefits of quitting smoking against the reasons to continue smoking, and maybe descide once you quit to spend the money you would usually spend on cigarettes to treat yourself.

I Loved smoking, but I can tell you now I am happier healthier and even less stressed and smoking is alot less socially accepted than it used to be.

Good luck :-)
