Hi,
Just curious as to how much importance or notice you take of online reviews, example.... I was looking at changing the place I usually go for my eye test. I was horrified by the reviews & the comments people left for this particular place. The people who had left reviews had a substantial amount of online reviews next to their names, I looked at their other reviews & they were not all negative.
So based on the reviews I read it swayed me to not to go to this particular place.
Interested in your thoughts.
Cheers.

I don't pay much attention to online reviews. I may ask a friend their opinion, but prefer to check the place out myself. Everyone has different expectations of a product/place/service. I trust my own judgement.

When I want to buy an appliance I will always check out reviews on the item. Some reviews I have seen, you can more or less tell that they haven't really tried the product in question.

I now do a lot of reviews on a site and I also produce proof that I have bought the product. There aren't many negative reviews I have done with any of the products I have bought. I like it if someone does ask me a question re the product because I know that I can truthfully answer the person. I remembering asking someone re a product before I started reviewing and I got some dumb answer which meant nothing.

I must be doing something right with my reviews as I got a free product to trial last year and use for a month and then give a review on it. It was by invitation only and yes the product was brilliant.

I think reviewing and reading other people's reviews is good.

I like online reviews as they give you different perspectives of what the product is like when you work for them. If there is too many high positive then i would have to go into the store. 9 times out of 10 one person would have a negative thing to talk about. I read the inciteful meaningful reviews that have alot of detail and that is when you know the person took the time and effort to write what they need to so that you can get the best understanding of the use of the product at hand.

I tend to agree with you, if someone has written a constructive review it can be beneficial. If the review is quite nasty, picky, I'll click on their profile & 9 times out of 10 all their reviews are nasty. Why you would bother to spend your time doing that? I also read replies from owners saying that they don't believe this person has been there & threatened legal action! Always wonder who that works out for the bad reviewer. Yet in these days of anti social media it's very hard to believe what people write. It must be awful for businesses these days having to contend with all that
Appreciate your reply :)

I occasionally extend kudos in writing when good work is given. However, I ALWAYS write down a review whenever shoddy work is extended, sparing no details. The reason is, while I firmly believe that most professional orgs, by the fact that they are existing, give good service; however, whenever the service is below standard, I feel it my duty to write about it, because without that, I believe:...'things will never improve'.
While I am 'guided' by the online reviews, I try and get a 'live' opinion from family and friends when/wherever possible, before making a change, or a new contact.

Like advertising I take it with a grain of salt. I look at the features I need and the price and that is it. Though I do turn to Choice to get product testing comparisons. Too many times I see positive reviews for poir things and negative reviews for good things.

I do think online reviews can sway you when reading the comments.
But if there's more good views about a product or place I am happy to give it a try .

Thanks Andy, I tend to agree.
