We recently lost our beloved cockatiels but now have masked parrots. They are as big as your pointer finger when born. They are mischievous lovable birds and give you hours of fun watching their antics. They are a tiny bird and have no tail and do not talk much but are loyal and energetic. Ours were hand raised and are still babies about 10 weeks old. When they are let out of the cage they get into all sorts of mischief and are hard to find as they are so small. We are birdlovers and have them out of the cage most of the time.

We have two dogs, a few fish and keep a friends old pony in our paddock. I foster for Working Breed Rehab so apart from my two can have fosters (Kelpies, Border Collies, Cattle Dogs, Koolies etc).

Used to have a menagerie when we were on the farm - lol - 4 ducks, 8 geese, numerous chickens, 80 goats, 2 sheep, 1 cow, 4 horses and 2 dogs. Have never been a cat person although we had cats at home when we were kids and my sister breeds Abyssinian and Ocicats

I only had birds as a pet when I was very young and yes they are lovely to just watch. We have had tropical fish for 20 years which are also lovely to watch, but it is an expensive pets..
We are real dog lovers. Our last dog passed away in 2003 he was nearly 17 years old. In his last year he only had 3 legs.
Our current dog is 4 years old and just had a crucial ligament operation and will also need his other leg done. Unfortunately we didn't have insurance so its all very very expensive. He is doing wonderfully. In this process we found out insurance only covers half your animal. Being t hat if they need an op on the left leg the right leg is not covered. I found this interesting as I don't think people realise this.

We have always had our horses insured and the stud buck when breeding goats. Our two current dogs were insured up till 12 months ago but because they were aging the premiums began to get expensive. I insured through Allianz.

Had no idea this was the case. Which pet insurance company are you with? I would be interested to know if this is the case with all insurance companies. What if the 1st surgery was not done...

Oops pay you what your monthly installments are actually paid in honour for. May the little guy or little woman win!!

Had no idea this was the case. Which pet insurance company are you with? I would be interested to know if this is the case with all insurance companies. What if the 1st surgery was not done correctly or a second tear occurred later on the same side as the initial repair? Would they cover a second repair on the same side or is it that they will only do a repair once only in the dogs lifetime. If they cover unlimited cruciate repairs on 1/2 yr dog it wld be terrible if a vet accidently wrote down the repair being on the insured half of your dog twice hey? Once they decide which half your dog is covered & say the heart is on the other side is the heart covered? Or the opposite foreleg. If they have literally told you they only cover half your dog i would pose these questions to make them realise how stupid their policy is. I would also ask for a 1/2 price policy since they advertise/claim to cover your whole dogs medical expenses but actually will only cover half your dog. I think you have a dodgy company. Read their policies. Does it say anywhere that you can not claim for same injury on both sides or that they only pay once for an ailment. Take a dog hit by car who has 2 broken legs lets say both front. Ask them will they pay to have xrays & treatment for 1 leg only? I think if there is nothing in their fine print or policy docs to tell you that only 1 side will be paid for or that a particular injury can only be claimed once, you are within your rights to really pushed this with someone high up in the company, if you have no joy tell them you will speak to legal aid, plus speak to the ombudsman for insurance practises and if need be go to media. Any 1 of these things by just knowing you will take this right to the very end may well pull them into line. If you go to ombudsman and they are investigated they will be fined 10's of thousands $$$ then going to media would be a story they would be interested in as it is a sick dog, an insurance company refusing to pay out what you pay them in faith for and it exposes them and warns others to watch out. Could be something you can get your teeth into. I make a bet they will stand to attention when they realise you are not going to be bluffed.
i cant afford pet insurance i have multiple animals 5 in fact and sure as eggs i will insure 1or 2 and it will be the others that need major vet attention. So i put money into a separate bank account. I started with paying weekly into that account $10 per animal. Now i put $15 per animal ea week. When i ran puppy preschool i recommended the same to clients if they couldn't afford insurance. It may not pay a complete emergency bill or big op but it sure takes the sting out. Recently i needed to pay $1600 for vet treatment and surgery for one of my dogs and it was lovely to go to the account to pay the bill and still have plenty there for the next major bill. Sure it wont pay for a major bill or op for all 5 animals in same month but by time another animal needs treatment i will have built up the balance again. .my little insurance acct will also pay for preventative health like vaccinations too! The account i use is an online savings with a high interest so it gets a nice little added interest regularly as well. Gotta say that's pretty good.
good luck with your dog and his ops. Have fun putting the squeeze on the insurance company good luck i hope you back them into a corner where they can do nothing but be honest & pay what you pay your monyhly
