I've got an LG machine that can convert VHS home movies to DVD, it does this very well as I allways check that it worked but.... they play on my DVD player but sometimes not on my DVD player in my tv and my computer and on other peoples DVD players and laptops why is this? Also I've got some old professional VHS tapes that I know that I can't convert because of copyrite but I can't buy these in DVD format, there must be a way to convert them to DVD

copyright has nothing to do with this problem.
If you put the DVD you made into a PC & look at the folders, they are probably lg_audio & lg_video - or there could just be the one folder. This will work on an LG machine only.
Copy both folders (or the folder if there is only one) into a folder on your hard drive.
Rename the folders from lg_video & lg_audio to ts_video & ts_audio
burn them to a new dvd. They should then play in any DVD player.
Have fun.
If you need/want help to do this, I can show you on your PC using teamviewer, which you can then remove. Just contact me. I promise not to bite.

Not a problem. Main thing is that you have it working.

Realised after you are in Hawaii - I am about 20 hours ahead of you. If we try for about 2030 your time, it's 1630 the next day here - if that fits your work hours. Otherwise I have between 0330 & 0500 or after 1600 Sydney.

Hi Petrolhead,
With your DVD's that you have put the movies onto, did you finalise the dvd? I know if I tape anything from the TV and put it onto a DVD, I have to finalise it before watching it on another DVD player. I don't know about your other problem with the copyrite tapes. Have you gone on any sites to see if you can buy your shows on DVD? Sometimes the older movies are lot cheaper. I would google them you may be surprised. Have a great weekend.

On my DVD recorder it comes up if you want to finalise or not. If you don't, you can't watch the DVD on another DVD player. Maybe you don't have to finalise on your machine. Though I find that a bit hard to believe. When you finish recording onto your DVD doesn't it come up do you want to finalise so you can watch on another DVD player? If not, I don't know what you can do. Sorry.

Hit finalise? Where?
CHELE11
Finalising is when you tape a 3 hour show onto a 4 hour DVD and hit finalise you can't tape on that DVD again even though you had another hour left on the DVD. You should be able to play it on another DVD player. Sorry, that is the best way I can explain that. Your taping VHS to DVD, I googled converting VHS copyrite tapes onto DVD. Quite a lot came up. Something called macrovision. If you google that as well some stuff comes up about that as well. Hope this works and helps.

What's finalise and how do you do it I've looked in the instruction book and there is no mention of it I've had NO luck with finding my VHS movies on DVD but even if I did there would be that added cost which irks me as I've got a machine that can convert them
