A good topic 888s****y and I agree.I only have minimal knowledge on bees.I have always been one for nature and have my own vege garden and fruit trees.I grow all this not just for the love of it, but for the costs of everyday living.I am often inquisitive on the growth of my plants etc. Have you noticed that the bees aren't around in numbers like they use to?I often think whether my vege's etc. are going to be polinated to bare fruit!

We all need to plant more bee/wildlife attracting plants.

The importance of bees is so underestimated. If only people were aware of bees contribution to us they would be far less inclined to try and swat them. Long live bees!!!!

I wonder how many people realise just how essential bees are. If our bee populations were to be wiped out, we would have very serious problems feeding ourselves with everything from cereals to veges to fruit not being pollinated.

Be very thankful that at the moment we have a very healthy environment and bee population unlike so many countries. How long this will last with the government relaxing imports of fruits from overseas. When will governments learn they have to protect our farmers and our industries. We export QUEEN BEES!!

hi I have bees about fifteen hives. their numbers are going down because of spraying and also in Australia there is a new threat called the small hve beetle. it is from south africa and it eats the lavee and honey killing the hive. I have lost about five hives in the last 12 months. there is nothing that can be done at the moment except to try and control them. if it continues I fear that the bee population in Australia is in a dangerous predicament

IF you have koi fish they come around, and some of them are natural bees..
they are even good to see, plus i live out in the country and have many trees and shrubs, you need to attract the bees to get them to visit..
plant some trees or shrubs..

Bees are great and we have lots but my husband is allergic , so we have to be very careful that
none get into the house. Being in Australia the native bees are fine and do not sting, but we are getting a lot
of European bees here now and they are not so good.

The only time I've ever really seen bees around where I live is hanging around lavender plants. But other than that - nothing.

Where i live we hardly see any ordinary bees, its nearly all bumble bees, they are actually lovely to watch. As for the ordinary bees, i am allergic to their sting.

Did you know, Chunks, that native Australian bees have no stings? When I used to live at Inglewood in VCictoria, we used to have a trough under the tap of an old water tank for the dogs to drink out of. The bees also used to come in for a drink and get straded in the water so I used to let them crawl on to my hand to rescue them.

My experience is the same as yours Lani, I have planted lavender on purpose so that there will be bees around to pollinate my vege plants. I see bumble bees often as well as ordinary bees.

I live in W.A. and we do not have enough bees here.We once had a swarm that took up residence in power lines under the ground and had to get a bee keeper in to move them out as it was just outside...

I find that there are more bees than I know what to do with. The last few years the numbers have just multiplied. Last summer they where everywhere and the kids got stung nearly everyday. We just have too many around my area.
