80% of the time u swich on TV there is an ad, people are now recording TV shows so we can fast forward them, thus advertisers are losing out on money spent...some morning shows have infomercial then 10 secs of TV then go to ad break...gosh...are we idiots??

I agree tv adds are a waste of time I get that their just trying to sell their stuff but we have so many channels why not add another channel just for adds . We have a news channel weather channel etc .. why can't we have a separate channel for adds ?

We fall victim to the ' taping of shows and fast fwd thru ads;. Sorry advertisers, i just hate how it breaks up a really good show or movie. We often mute ad's but somehow can't take our eyes off the screen. I dislike the infomercials too but as a housewife find myself belieiving i need the latest steam mop in my life!!!

Soon all TV will be interactive and ads will be tuner to the viewer, like ads on web sites. Then maybe a greater % of ads will be relevant and enjoyable to the viewer.

Gerry, I think the law is that you can put on 20 minutes of ads in every hour. Please don't quote me on this. when I left Germany in 1965 they had half an hour of ads after the evening news and between each separate program. No interruptions in between at all. That was great. I used to watch a lot of ABC because of no Ads but they have so much self promotion now and its boring and also annoying. And NO, we are NOT idiots. Definitely not!!!!

even more annoying when the add has a really catchy yet annoying song on it,and it makes you want to sing along to it...i find that quite funny..=)

I agree, I only record tv shows to watch later. All advertising is annoying in the middle of a tv show. If I want to buy something I will research it, regardless of whether it is advertised on TV or not. In just over 2 hours it is possible to watch 3 x 1 hour reorded shows without ads, the length of time ads are broadcast per hour of TV is surely increasing !

Try coming to the Mount Gambier area. WIN tv hold the 3 licenses and control all the advertising. You cannot use EPG because no programe starts or finish's on time running late by upto 15 minutes. they also vary the finish times so if you watch the end of 1 programe you miss the 1st 5 minutes of a progrme on another channel. maybe advertisers need to stop creating such lame ads so that the public will not be so adverse to watching them

If there is a show we really like, we record it so we can watch it and fast forward through the ads, it has got worse and it is no good complaining to the TV stations or even the so called government body as they all say the same thing. The TV stations are doing the right thing...yes??? Just look at Top Gear, since going over to channel 9, it is all ads you just get into something and whoops its ads again...
talk about spoiling a show. We now only watch it after taping first. How do people feel about the repeat ads? you can see the same ad 2 or 3 times in the same break??? talk about make you mad and it makes us avoid the product or service they are advertising...

infomercials are just that - information being passed on in a manner which is so scripted and usually boring. Television commercial made by good advertising agencies can - if given a prodct which is interesting and if they have enough leeway and money to make an interesting commercial, can make ads that you want to watch. They don't have to be extremely expensive, just have a few good lines. Note: "It's your money Ralph" ... "Not happy Jan" ... These seem to stick around for some time. Also take a good look at the Coke and Pepsi ads. Money well spent as you want to see what can be done with a bottle of soft drink.

Actually what's truly obnoxious is when they put ads on Pay TV. I thought that was the whole point of PAYING for it...no ads! Guess I was wrong...Definitely time to complain loud and long IMHO.

I find that when I put on morning TV to watch sunrice or the other channels I will get the beginning of a long string of commercials no matter what time I tune in

I agree there are just too many ads!

Some people have mentioned that these ads are necessary as otherwise the budgets will be cut and we will have poorer quality Tv programs. I don't agree with this at all. In some Asian countries they only show ads halfway through the TV show or only BETWEEN tv shows. Their budgets do not get cut and the quality and especially variety (yes, I'm talking free to air TV!) is so much better than what we get here in AUS.

I think we are just so used to being pushed around and treated like idiots by these companies, and not just in regards to TV programs but grocery prices too.

I suppose ads are a necessary evil. May I suggest that they only beable to show the same ad only once in an hour. That's when they really annoy me - when I see the exact same ad in the previous commercial break. Oh, how about when they start a break with an ad and then think we're really stupid and finish off the break with it again. A really bad timeslot for this to happen is when "Packed to the Rafters" is on.

I can't imagine what's going to happen when we have 15 free to air channels. (Haven't heard much about it lately...is it still happening?) If they can't find anything decent to put on the 4 we have, what sort of rubbish are they going to air? And what ads will we be forced to endure? The only good thing is maybe there will be less ads per break...? At the moment there is about 7 minutes of program and 10 minutes of ads...or it feels like it. Why can't they have programs sponsored by a company who tells everyone they can watch the show with only one ad break. We'd remember and appreciate them wouldn't we?

i really like watching prime time ads, they can often be really clever and will stay tuned to see them. i flick constantly if its not prime time and if im watching tv for the sake of it.

i prefer watching ads that are creative and use weird techniques that capture my attention. i loved the schweps ad with the bubbles slowed down!

Thus i will be a little concerned if budgets are cut due to fast fwding or the economic crisis as they wont be as good and then i really will fast fwd them!

I think the more adds they have on television is because it pays for the companies a lot of money to be seen and heard. I also think after 7pm we are subjected to a lot more adds than normaly

Me too. When I am watching tv I haven't taped I tend to turn volume down and read a book in commercial breaks. Commercials always seem louder than the show I'm watching as well!

I agree every so often you get an ad which is so well done you want to see it again - challenge met and success made to those who know how to capture our attention however I think the thing that annoys me the most is the repetition of showing the same ads each ad break - show me something interesting and new for goodness sake and then I might want to watch with more interest. And show me something with a bit of class and nounce please!

This is how you find out what is new in the market place for you to buy stuff. If we did not have adds on the television a lot of companies would go broke. I love watching certain adds on the television as some of them make me laugh and cry.

I think advertisers should strive to make us interested in their ads, some ads revolting.

Some ads ARE entertaining and then there are the others.........BORINGGGGGGGGGG. Those morning shows are more info commercials then the actual programme.

I can understand that we need the ads for TV to survive....but do we need them to compete for time with the programs that we watch?

True, but we should not forget that ads are being used also to provide awareness to people. It is very much significant especially if it provides informations about health, education and investments.

And also the same old line for the next 50 customers only you will get a free whatever, when in fact the free product is already included in with the original product.

Informercials just go for far too long and drive me bananas too. I usually stop watching tv altogether, go off and do something else when they come on.

Worries me a bit for if we don;t watch these so called ads in some way then the company's behind them might cut back there spending, therefore local made shows etc may end up been cut back as well?
